For ExxonMobil, IBM expanded security capabilities that leverage the latest in digital payments technology to safely handle consumer transactions and remove the risk of card skimming. With the encryption of user information, users can be confident that their data is never stored on any devices or systems, leading to safer and secure payment experiences.

Additionally, the IBM team spearheaded a cloud migration for the ExxonMobil Rewards+ app, resulting in a seamless launch that was invisible to consumers and the broader ecosystem.  Built on IBM’s Mobile First Platform using IBM Software as a Service (SaaS) options, IBM was able to customize and construct a highly scalable and fault-tolerant operating environment, leading to significant cost savings, high scalability and security improvements for ExxonMobil. Migrating to IBM Cloud® has also enabled ExxonMobil to improve its speed in responding to changing market conditions and consumer preferences.


Going the extra mile to create a premier consumer experience

Equipped with the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app, ExxonMobil remains poised to adapt and innovate through an ever-evolving industry landscape and a vibrant age of digital transformation.

After building an entire app experience in less than six months, with a new focus around user loyalty, the new and improved Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app quickly became one of the top ten apps in its category. The Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app has since achieved an app store rating of over 4.8 stars, proving IBM’s efforts to be an impactful contributor to ExxonMobil’s retail fuels loyalty and payment programs.

IBM and ExxonMobil are entering their fifth year of this strategic relationship, operating in a product-based agile delivery approach. By resourcing IBM’s digital solutions and global expertise, ExxonMobil continues to leverage the app platform to meet consumer needs while providing them an elite experience.
