With over 34,000 employees, it’s one of Sweden’s biggest employers and is responsible for healthcare and public transport, infrastructure, social planning, as well as environmental and climate-related issues.

Computer-Aided Facilities Management

By utilizing building and asset management technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, IBM and Region Skåne created Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM). This solution has helped nurses and employees access near real-time information on asset status and condition of buildings; get inventory of vehicle fleets; provide “digital twins” of buildings under Region’s management; and enable key processes to be executed from mobile phones and tablets by employees anywhere in the world. 

CAFM has helped Region improve resource allocation, overall productivity for employees and patient satisfaction rates.


Digitizing hospitals and patient experiences

With CAFM, nurses are automatically alerted as soon as a vacant bed is available for a new patient, eliminating manual processes and speeding up the patient care lifecycle. Cleaning staff are guided by appointment alerts to cleaning priorities and maintenance staff receive work orders for preventative maintenance based on asset condition, not on calendar plans.
