About the study

Approach

The Watson Health® 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies the top-performing hospitals in the US using a balanced scorecard of clinical, operational and financial metrics (PDF, 996 KB) derived from public data. As the industry has evolved, so has the study.

Partnering with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (link resides outside ibm.com) in 2021, we drafted a new metric for hospital contributions to community health (PDF, 98 KB), with a focus on equity. This marks the first major hospital rankings to include a quantitative measure of community health as an equal measure. View the final methodology proposal (PDF, 3.8 MB).
