What is 100 Top Hospitals?
For most hospital leaders, it’s not enough to know who are top hospitals. They want to know “Why?” and “What can we do to rank among the best hospitals?"
Watson Health® 100 Top Hospitals® answers these questions by conducting an annual, in-depth study of US hospital performance. It's more than a best hospitals honor roll. The data produce custom reports that can help hospitals and health systems achieve results.

About the study
The Watson Health® 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies the top-performing hospitals in the US using a balanced scorecard of clinical, operational and financial metrics (PDF, 996 KB) derived from public data. As the industry has evolved, so has the study.
Partnering with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (link resides outside ibm.com) in 2021, we drafted a new metric for hospital contributions to community health (PDF, 98 KB), with a focus on equity. This marks the first major hospital rankings to include a quantitative measure of community health as an equal measure. View the final methodology proposal (PDF, 3.8 MB).
