Where simplicity meets performance
Organizations are embracing hyperconverged infrastructure at an unprecedented rate, and many of the clients I meet with are looking at hyperconverged solutions as part of their long-term data center strategy. Why? Because in our experience they value the ease of deployment, use and management that hyperconverged solutions provide.
But in the changing world of IT, no one can afford to compromise on the value they get from their infrastructure. Now, you can choose the right infrastructure, for your workloads … simply. You might think you need to compromise server performance for ease of use. You don’t.
Driven by strong client demand, last month IBM and Nutanix announced a partnership aimed at helping clients simplify the complexity of their data center modernization and cloud migration while deploying new transformative cognitive applications.
Today, we are excited to announce our first joint product offerings — IBM Hyperconverged Systems powered by Nutanix.

Today, we are announcing two new servers: the IBM CS821 and IBM CS822. These servers are the industry’s first hyperconverged solutions that marry Nutanix’s renowned one-click software simplicity and scalability with the proven performance of the IBM POWER architecture, which is designed specifically for data-intensive workloads.
These hyperconverged solutions enable a public cloud-like experience through on-premises infrastructure with world-class virtualization and automation capabilities. They provide a combination of reliable storage, fast networks, scalability and extremely powerful computing in modular, scalable building blocks. And it is easy to grow the cluster by adding nodes when needed.
IBM Hyperconverged Systems are well-suited to bring data-intensive enterprise workloads like EDB Postgres, MongoDB and WebSphere into a simple-to-manage, on-premises cloud environment. Running these complex workloads on IBM Hyperconverged Systems can help you to quickly and easily deploy open source databases and webserving applications in your data center without the complexity of setting up all of the underlying infrastructure plumbing.
Additionally, these operational data stores are the foundational building blocks as clients build a data center to take on cognitive workloads. These ever-advancing workloads in advanced analytics, machine learning and AI will require you to be able to tap into data already housed on premises. Soon we will bring new offerings to market in this family of hyperconverged systems that will be designed to simply and easily deploy and scale a cognitive cloud infrastructure environment.
The IBM CS822 (the larger of the two offerings being announced today) packs 22 POWER8 processor cores. That’s 176 compute threads, with up to 512 GB of memory and 15.36 TB of flash storage in a consumable server that fits seamlessly under simple Nutanix Prism management. This server runs Nutanix Acropolis with AHV and little endian Linux.
