When I started Epiphany a few years ago, I knew the future of banking would be digital. I could see that Fintechs and other non-bank competitors would soon outpace traditional banks at creating the always-on convenience, personalized services and apps that customers were demanding. The banks would need to adapt to this new ecosystem, but the cumbersome process of launching new applications and services on their core banking systems held them back.

Containers and Kubernetes provide agility on IBM Cloud

We created our Epiphany ONE digital banking platform to help banks ramp up digital services faster, without having to make major infrastructure investments or replace their core banking systems. The platform provides the framework for a set of microservices and applications to help modernize and transform traditional banking systems into digital banking platforms.

As a cloud-and-digital-native business, we chose IBM Cloud for rapid provisioning, flexibility and security. We’re using the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, which is designed for high availability and automation, as the cloud container application to launch our services. We recently certified our platform on Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud as we plan to move our Account Aggregation application to IBM Cloud Pak offerings to facilitate deployment and take advantage of the Cloud Pak AI services.

We’re also using an array of IBM Cloud services that work with our Epiphany Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) application to help our customers meet the EU regulation’s nearly 800 requirements for electronic payment processing. Because the PSD2 application runs on cloud, customers that use it can ramp up and comply with the regulation within about two weeks.

Digital banking transformation at the speed of cloud

Banks are excited about using the Epiphany ONE platform to drive their digital transformation. We believe that our platform is the only truly open banking platform in the industry, which means that it allows banks to launch new apps from scratch or use ready-to-go microservices and APIs to enhance their offerings.

Epiphany One also offers an app store with ready-to-use solutions created by partners, with a one-click install process so that the bank can offer new services within a short timeframe.

IBM Cloud provides the flexibility and integration we need to help our customers launch new services and apps quickly. Plus, it’s a proven architecture. We’ve found it simple and intuitive to use, cost-effective and fast to provision. Our customers benefit indirectly from these time and cost savings as well.

The future of banking is digital, and the future of digital banking is in the cloud. Because we’re using the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, banks can use our platform to automate the deployment of new, containerized applications in just weeks. Our customers gain digital agility without costly infrastructure investments, speeding time to market for their new apps and services.
