IBM Db2 12.1.2.0 introduces a new built-in data type, VECTOR, allowing users to store and manage vectorized data for AI applications. With support for semantic similarity searches, users can now run SQL queries with vector distance metrics, perform nearest neighbor searches, and generate vector embeddings for applications like Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and recommendation systems. Db2 now enables seamless integration of AI applications with routine operational workloads by managing both structured and unstructured data.
