When you describe a problem to an IBM software support specialist, be as specific as possible and include all relevant background information so that the specialist can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:

  • What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
  • Do you have logs, traces, or messages that are related to the problem?
  • Can you reproduce the problem? If so, what steps do you take to reproduce it?
  • Is there a workaround for the problem? If so, be prepared to describe the workaround.

If you have helpful information to diagnose or identify the problem on your system, you can provide this data by following the instructions to http://www.ibm.com/software/support/exchangeinfo.html">exchange information with IBM Software Support.

Enhanced functions and fixed defects

For more information about the enhancements for Enterprise Edition, see What's new in ZD&T V12.0.3 in the IBM Knowledge Center.

Fixed defects for Enterprise Edition:

  • The JAR file that provides SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) support for transferring extracted z/OS artifacts to the image store server is updated and renamed to zDTMainframeSFTP.jar. To create a new volume, data set, or CICS component by using ZD&T Enterprise Edition, you must update the ZD&T extraction utility SFTP module to the latest version.
  • z1091 installer and client environment script files are moved to z Systems directory.
  • The user ID dev and tester are added to the approved roles for some APIs.
  • The memory size that is more than 18GB is prevented from being assigned to ZD&T emulator on the front end for V12.0.3.
  • The REST API to remove image is modified to automatically replace the scripts on the target environment with the latest version. These changes are used elsewhere for APIs that download the script files to target environments.
  • Fixed the issue that the .zdtenv_xxxx file is missing when you remove an image that was deployed with an older version of Enterprise Edition.
  • The REST API to stop emulator is changed. A 2-minute process will check whether the the emulator is stopped by reading the grep output.

Fixed defects:

  • When you use the Ubuntu distribution, the uim package that is provided by Ubuntu will cause the uninstallation of ZD&T UIM package that is used by the ZD&T Software-based license server. To ensure that no conflict occurs with other packages that are used by Ubuntu, the UIM package in the ZD&T Software-based license server that was provided by both the Enterprise Edition and Parallel Sysplex offerings is renamed from UIM to zpdtuim.
  • The settings of DNS server are improved during the configuration of z/OS.
  • When you resume the extraction of a volume or data set, the old volume or data set image file in the storage server will be deleted.
  • Fixed the issue that the removal of image fails with the violation of foreign key on the table 'System_Application'.
  • The password of the FTP credentials is prevented from being shown in the ssh history file.
  • The version of the Enterprise Edition server is reported in the message.log.
  • The iptable nat rules are changed to exclude the internal interface.
  • The iptables rules are persisted on the target environment after the deployment or image is removed.
  • Deployment messages are added to the console log.
  • A warning message is added to indicate that the duplicate ADCD packages are detected in the FTP server.
  • Fixed the issue that components cannot be created when the FTP server was not set up.
  • A new icon Extraction needed is added to check the zero-sized data sets component before the component is deployed.

Fixed defects:

  • Redirection to the unauthorized page can occur if the user defined in Enterprise edition does not exactly match the name that was defined in the LDAP system.
  • Deploying an application image using the REST API always fails with an HTTP 400 error.
  • The ZD&T emulator might fail to run on a Ubuntu system after the deployment is complete, because the user session that is used for deployment was closed.
  • The deployment action is blocked against a RedHat Enterprise Linux 7.4/7.5 target environment due to a missing 'nc' package.

Enhanced functions

For more information about the enhancements, see What's new in ZD&T V12.0.0.1 in the IBM Knowledge Center.

  • A new installer prompt verifies whether you want the 'zdt' user ID to be automatically created to run the server process. If you select no on the prompt, specify the existing user ID that you want to use to run the web server process. An upgrade from a previous version automatically sets the user ID to 'zdt'.
  • The startServer and stopServer scripts are renamed to startServer.sh and stopServer.sh. The scripts do not require root credentials. However, if you want to run the scripts, you must have the authority to switch to the user ID that runs the server process.
  • Enhancements for the Enterprise Edition web interface
    • Support for extracting and transferring multiple volumes simultaneously is added.
    • Support for stopping and resuming application image creation is added to the Monitor page.
    • Support for retrieving the diagnostic log files for failed application image creation is added to the Monitor page.
    • System administration actions that occur during the deployment process can be customized on the target environment configuration page.

Update Description
Enhanced functions and fixed defects

  • IBM z Systems Development and Test Environment v11.0.2.1 includes a Fix Pack for reported issues, along with the following new beta functionality that will be officially supported in the next release of the product. For more information, see IBM z Systems Development and Test Environment (zD&T) V11.0.2.1 is Now Available.
    • RESTful APIs can be used to automate the creation and deployment of z/OS environments. The process can be done by using the data from an existing mainframe, an ADCD installation, or an existing zD&T environment.
    • Sudo permission is supported. zD&T can be deployed to a target environment by using a non-root user ID.
  • Deploying a new instance to a target environment no longer stops firewalld on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v7.x. The following ports are opened by the deployment to ensure communication to Linux and z/OS: 22, 1947, 2022, 3270, 9450, 9451.
  • During the deployment process, the single quote characters in the devmap are now properly escaped to ensure that the content is transferred to the target Linux system correctly.
  • The comments in the devmap file that are supplied to IMPORT existing content page are now handled properly to ensure that all volume files defined in the devmap are transferred to the FTP server.

Fixed defects and enhanced functions

  • A failure might occur during the deployment process as a wrong network interface might be chosen to retrieve the installation files from the Tools machine.
  • The Create Image button on the application image creation page is sometimes disabled unexpectedly.
  • If the login directory for a user on UNIX System Services is /, then a failure occurs when a volume is extracted and transferred to the FTP server as a part of the application image creation.
  • The extracted volume file cannot be saved on an FTP server that runs on a Windows platform, as the generated name of the file contains a ':' character.
  • Sometimes, the license manager cannot be located by an instance that is created by the Tools.
  • An error that states insufficient memory to initialize the emulator might occur during the deployment process.
  • Perl is now automatically installed on the Linux operating system as a part of the deployment process.
