    • Upgrading the maintenance level

If you plan to upgrade IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator, please contact IBM support by opening a case.
For acceleration on IBM Integrated Analytics System we would like you to create an Appliance trace and to upload it to the support case for an offline health check of the system.
For acceleration on IBM Z we need to know the current maintenance level of the accelerator software and the one you want to upgrade to.

For upgrading the maintenance level of the accelerator server of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7 at first the corresponding container image needs to be downloaded from Fix Central to your workstation.

For IBM Integrated Analytics System there are two options for transferring the container image from your workstation to the accelerator:

      • Transfer of the container image using IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio (recommended)
Under the cover this transfer consists of the following two steps:
        a) transfer to a global temporary table on Db2 z in parallel with
        b) transfer from Db2 z to the accelerator
Make sure the corresponding Db2 z system has at least 25 GB of free space available for temporary tables.
      • Transfer of the container image via zFS
This transfer consists of the following two steps:
        a) transfer to a directory in zFS followed by
        b) transfer from zFS to the accelerator using IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio or a call of the corresponding stored procedure.
Make sure the zFS file system has at least 25 GB of free space available.
    • Call-home function

The Hardware Management Console (HMC) offers a call-home function for IBM Z. You must connect this function to your accelerator system so that it can be used to send notifications about accelerator-related events to selected administrators. Currently, this call-home function can only be used for deployments of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on an IBM Integrated Analytics System.
The HMC MCL bundle 32 needs to be installed on the HMC to be able to configure and use the call-home function for the accelerator.
For details concerning the setup see section "Using the call-home function" of chapter "Beyond the basics" in the Installation Guide.

  • Maintenance level of the accelerator - 7.5.2 is NOW available
Each maintenance level consists of two components:
    • A container image for installation on the accelerator; this is normally downloaded from FixCentral
    • SMP/E-installable PTFs
  • Coexistence with Db2 Analytics Accelerator V5
To run IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® Version 7 and IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® Version 5 side-by-side in a coexistence setup (that is : pairing a V7 Accelerator to a Db2 for z/OS subsystem that has already been paired to a V5 Accelerator ), the V5 stored procedures must be at least at maintenance level V5 PTF-2.
If the Db2 Analytics Accelerator Loader will be used in a coexistence setup to load data to both a V7 Accelerator and a V5 Accelerator, the V5 stored procedures must be at least at maintenance level V5 PTF-4.

One accelerator is represented by one LPAR. Each LPAR requires IFLs, RAM, and Storage.

        Components Minimum suggested configuration
IFLs For getting-started use cases, the minimum suggested configuration is:
        • 2 IFLs, 64 GB memory and 16 GB for each CDC subscription
The recommended ratio between IFLs and memory is: 32 up to 128 GB for each IFL
        Storage
        • Requires additional customer-provided storage (actual size depends on workload)
        • FCP or FICON attached
        • The required Appliance operation pool size (Installation and boot disk size) changed with maintenance level 7.1.7. Without the right pool size the first boot will fail after uploading the Accelerator image.
For more information see the table 'Recommended pools and pool sizes' in chapter Installing Db2 Analytics Accelerator on Z of the Installation Guide.
        Note:
Either feature code (FC) 0103 Linux Hosting Foundation or 0104 Container Hosting Foundation is required to deploy Db2 Analytics Accelerator V7 on IBM Z or LinuxONE after January 15, 2020. This affects the following machine types:

        Products Models
        IBM z15 – all models Type 8561
        IBM z14 – all models Type 3906, 3907
IBM LinuxONE Emperor II – all models Type 3906, 3907
IBM LinuxONE Emperor III – all models Type 8561
The entitlement of the FC is for the lifetime of the server; no annual renewal is required. Renew the entitlement with each new server generation (new build or machine upgrade). Order the appropriate FC for each server where Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7 solution will be deployed on.
Keep in mind that you must order the FC even if Subscription & Support has already been purchased for the solution.
  • Network requirements
The following sections show the network requirements that must be met to successfully run IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS.
    • Network requirements for acceleration on IBM Integrated Analytics System
For the data network between IBM z Systems and the IBM Integrated Analytics System (M4001-003, M4001-006, M4001-010), a dedicated physical network is required.

      • Minimum network configuration
The minimum network configuration is for test and development scenarios, but does not satisfy high availability requirements. Hence this configuration should not be used in a production environment. The minimum network configuration requires the following components:
        Heads up
For longer 10GbE SR connections with distances around 300 meters, OM3 fiber optic cables are required. Other types support only shorter distances.

        4 RJ45 cable Network
      • Call-home function
To use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) call-home function with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator, your network must have been prepared accordingly:

        • Two cables are required between the IBM Integrated Analytics System and the HMC network switch.
        • A sufficient number of IP addresses must have been defined for the purpose. That is, each accelerator processing node requires a static IP address in the HMC network. In addition, a floating IP address must be defined, which is used for the head node.
        • The network connection between IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator and the HMC must be a switched connection (Layer-2 network), where the IP addresses of both devices are in the same subnet. A routed network connection (Layer-3 network) won't work.

In many cases, the support engineer makes the necessary provisions during the initial installation of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator on the basis of the submitted site survey. However, if you do not yet meet the network requirements, you must open a service request.
    • Network requirements for acceleration on IBM Z

For query acceleration on IBM Z, a TCP/IP network connection is required between the affected Db2 for z/OS subsystems and IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7. This connection can either be defined using

      • OSA Express interfaces in IBM z14 or IBM z15

      • or using
      • Hipersockets (if the Db2 subsystem runs in an LPAR on the same CEC).

Network bandwidth and speed impact overall solution performance. For OSA interfaces we therefore recommend a dedicated OSA Express card and 10GbE connectivity with Jumbo Frames.
      Note:
      1. OSA-Express7S 25 GbE cards are currently not supported (see also APAR PH23677).
      2. When using an OSA-Express7 card make sure to have the latest Microcode Change Level (MCL) in place.

       .

If a Firewall is in place for the network between the accelerator and the Db2 for z/OS-LPAR, at least the following ports must be accessible for the IP addresses assigned to the accelerator and z/OS LPAR:
      1400, 1401, 1500, 1600, 2222, 11301-11350, 11351-11399, 11400, 11401, 51113, plus GDPS server ports (if GDPS support is used).

VLANs (access and trunk interfaces) are supported for networks configured for the accelerator. A trunk interface can carry traffic for two or more VLANs and requires VLAN specification in the network interface on the HMC (for the "management network") or the data network, connecting to Db2 for z/OS.

For appliance installation and management, a Web browser (Firefox or Chrome) with network access to the LPAR is required. If a Firewall is in place for this "management network", at least HTTP/HTTPS ports (80 and 443) must be accessible for the appliance and the machine running the Web browser in this network.
If IP addresses defined for the appliance and the machine running the Web browser are in different networks and network routing is implemented, the corresponding gateway must be specified during LPAR network definition.

      • Recommended Db2-PTFs
To determine all (Db2-)PTFs recommended for use with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7, use the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command in conjunction with FIXCAT HOLDDATA as follows:

        1. Acquire and RECEIVE the latest HOLDDATA file onto your z/OS system. Use your normal service acquisition portal or download
the two (2) year HOLDDATA files here: Enhanced HOLDDATA for z/OS .
Ensure you select 'FULL' from the Download NOW column (last 730 days) to receive the FIXCAT HOLDDATA, as the other files do not contain FIXCAT HOLDDATA.
        2. Run the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command on your z/OS systems and specify
          • For V7.1: Fix Category FIXCAT (IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R1)
          • For V7.5: Fix Categories FIXCAT (IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R1, IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R5).
The report will identify missing PTFs associated with that categories on that system. For more information about the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command, see here.
        3. Periodically acquire the latest HOLDDATA file and rerun the REPORT MISSINGFIX command to determine if there are new recommended (Db2-)PTFs for IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7.
    • GDPS support (Accelerator on IBM Z only)
With maintenance level 7.5.1 (or higher) the integration with IBM GDPS ® (Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex) for high availability and disaster recovery is supported. This requires the following GDPS product versions:
  • Incremental update
The incremental update function of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® allows you to update accelerator-shadow tables continually. Changes to the data in original Db2 for z/OS tables are thus propagated to the corresponding target tables with a high frequency and just a brief delay. This way, query results from an accelerator are always extracted from recent, close-to-real-time data.
    • Integrated Synchronization (release 7.5 or higher)
Integrated synchronization is a built-in product feature that makes it easy to set up incremental updates. It does not require IBM InfoSphere Data Replication for z/OS (CDC), and therefore requires fewer customization and activation steps. In addition, integrated synchronization has further advantages:

      • Reduced complexity.
      • Updates are processed very fast.
      • Reduced CPU consumption on the mainframe because most of the processing is done on the client side (accelerator).
      • On the mainframe, the workload can be handled by IBM z Systems® Integrated Information Processors (zIIPs).
      • Speedier service request processing through better support channel integration
        Integrated synchronization requires
      • Db2 12 for z/OS with PTF UI63356 installed, running at function level V12R1M500
      • Distributed data facility (DDF) with a secure port, configured for network encryption through AT-TLS
      • For data sharing groups: ability to always connect to the same member, for example by using a member-specific secure port that has a local alias.
      • IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS Version 7.5 or later.
    • Incremental update (using IBM InfoSphere Data Replication for z/OS)
  • Administering the accelerator
Data Server Manager and IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio provide a graphical administration interface for the product.
  • IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator Loader
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Loader for z/OS (further on abbreviated as 'the Loader') is a Db2 Tools product that provides capabilities and options for loading data into Db2 for z/OS and IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator. These capabilities let you select the load option that best meets your business needs when populating data in the Analytics Accelerator. For more information on the Loader see the corresponding see knowledge center.
For use of the Loader with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7, PTF UI68784 (or its successor) is mandatory.
For the list of available Loader-PTFs please see here.
