Migrating from Accelerator Version 7.5 on IBM Z to Version 8.1
For details concerning the migration from Accelerator Version 7.5 on IBM Z to Version 8.1, see the migration chapter here or the IBM Documentation Center for Version 8.1. We recommend starting the migration of Accelerator V7.5 using maintenance level 7.5.14.1 or later.
For an overview, read the following sections:General remarks
An installation of Accelerator V7.5 on IBM Z can be upgraded to V8.1 using the standard upgrade procedure.
The following prerequisites must be met / considered before starting the upgrade installation:- We recommend starting the migration to Accelerator V8.1 from V7.5 maintenance level 7.5.14.2 or later.
- A multi-node accelerator setup for V7.5 must use the Confined Head Node-architecture.
- Any existing CDC-based replication subscription must be disabled.
- Weak certificates for Integrated Synchronization must be replaced.
- We recommend starting the migration to Accelerator V8.1 from V7.5 maintenance level 7.5.14.2 or later.
Stored Procedures
The stored procedures for Accelerator V8.1 are provided via SMP/E-installable FMIDs HAQTX10 and JAQTXID.
- See the program directory for details.
- The installation of the PTF for APAR PH67172 is mandatory.
- Install them next to the V7.5 stored procedures. See the paragraphs concerning installation libraries and installation and setup in IBM Documentation for details.
- In the existing WLM environment, concatenate the V8.1 stored procedure library (SAQTMOD) before the V7.5 stored procedures library.
- The V8.1 stored procedures work with V7.5 and V8.1 accelerators.
- After the migration and a test phase have been completed, the V7.5 stored procedures can be deinstalled. Note:
If you are also using Db2 Data Gate on the same Db2 subsystem, you need to retain the V7.5 stored procedures.
Multi-node setup considerations
- The support for a Cross-Drawer head node-architecture setup has been withdrawn in V8.1.
- V8.1 will only support the Confined Head Node-architecture. Advantages are:
- Improved load and workload performance because cross-drawer traffic is avoided
- No PR/SM interaction involved
- See the paragraph concerning multi-node setup in IBM Documentation for details.
- Clients using the Cross-Drawer Head Node-architecture need to migrate to the Confined Head Node-architecture prior or during migration from V7.5 to V8.1.
Integrated Synchronization & weak certificates
- Weak certificates are not supported for Integrated Synchronization in V8.1.
- Weak certificates in general are old certificates which have a key length less than
- 2048 bits for an RSA certificate
RSA : Rivest-Shamir-Adleman, a public-key encryption algorithm. - 256 bits for an ECC certificate
ECC : Elliptic curve cryptography, a public-key encryption algorithm.
- 2048 bits for an RSA certificate
- Integrated Synchronization in V8.1 won’t start if a weak certificate is detected.
- It is recommended to replace weak certificates with new ones before migrating to V8.1.
Using Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.14 or later, a DSNX881I message with ID 4047 occurs once a day in DB2MSTR if a weak certificate is detected.
Coexistence with Db2 Analytics Accelerator V7.5
To run IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® Version 8.1 and IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® Version 7.5 side-by-side in a coexistence setup (that is : pairing a V8.1 accelerator to a Db2 for z/OS subsystem that has already been paired to a V7.5 accelerator), the V8.1 stored procedures must be used to support both Accelerators.
If IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Loader for z/OS V3.1 will be used in a coexistence setup to load data to both a V8.1 accelerator and a V7.5 accelerator (HALOAD), the V8.1 stored procedures must be used.

Remote maintenance sessions
IBM support uses screen sharing tools for accessing your accelerator(s) remotely. If a remote maintenance session becomes necessary, there are different choices for the tool used to run that session:
- As a customer, you can of course request to use your company's software for the session with IBM support.
- IBM support uses Microsoft Teams as default choice.
- Alternatively, IBM support can also hold the remote maintenance session using Cisco WebEx™.
Additional information:- If your company is using Microsoft Teams™, please get in contact with the corresponding administrator. He needs to verify whether the security policies for Microsoft Teams™ allow for a handover of screen control and for using copy & paste in the chat when there are participants from outside of your company (meaning from IBM).
- At minimum, the tool being used for the support session needs to provide a view of the screens used to access the accelerator and a chat function that allows to convey commands to be executed on the accelerator.
- If there is no handover of control to the IBM support personnel, the counterpart at the customer needs to have Linux skills for successful execution of the commands to be executed.
Upgrading the maintenance level
If you plan to upgrade IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator, please contact IBM support by opening a case and let us know your current Accelerator maintenance level and the one you want to upgrade to.
For upgrading the maintenance level of the accelerator server of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7 at first the corresponding container image needs to be downloaded from Fix Central to your workstation.
Upgrading the maintenance level - Accelerator on Integrated Analytics System
For an offline health check of the system
- Create an Appliance trace and upload it to the support case for an offline health check of the system.
- Transfer the container image from your workstation to the accelerator and upload the corresponding transfer log to the support case as well.
There are two options for transferring the container image:- Transfer using IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio (recommended)
Under the cover this transfer consists of the following two steps:
a) transfer to a global temporary table on Db2 z in parallel with
b) transfer from Db2 z to the accelerator
Make sure the corresponding Db2 z system has at least 25 GB of free space available for temporary tables.
Note:
In Data Studio, this transfer method will be initiated when you click the button "Transfer file from client" on window "Transfer Updates". - Transfer using zFS
This transfer consists of the following two steps:
a) transfer to a directory in zFS followed by
b) transfer from zFS to the accelerator using IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio or a call of the corresponding stored procedure.
Make sure the zFS file system has at least 25 GB of free space available.
Note:
In Data Studio, this transfer method will be initiated when you click the button "Transfer file from System Z" on window "Transfer Updates".
- Transfer using IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator Studio (recommended)
Upgrading the maintenance level - Accelerator on IBM Z
Before starting the upgrade consider the following:
- Create a FlashCopy® snapshot; if the upgrade would ever fail for unforeseeable reasons, the appliance can be restored to this snapshot.
- If network bonding is defined, make sure all devices are up and properly connected.
- Make sure the Data Pool is not filled up beyond 70%; use the Admin UI to verify all Accelerator LPARs. If necessary, enlarge the Data Pool: add storage and make it available BEFORE you start the upgrade.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the following description of the update process: Updating Db2 Analytics Accelerator on Z.

Network requirements
The following sections show the network requirements that must be met to successfully run IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS.
Network requirements for acceleration on IBM Integrated Analytics System
For the data network between IBM z Systems and the IBM Integrated Analytics System (M4001-003, M4001-006, M4001-010), a dedicated physical network is required.
Minimum network configuration
The minimum network configuration is for test and development scenarios, but does not satisfy high availability requirements. Hence this configuration should not be used in a production environment. The minimum network configuration requires the following components:
Heads up
For longer 10GbE SR connections with distances around 300 meters, OM3 fiber optic cables are required. Other types support only shorter distances.Quantity Product Location 1 OSA-ExpressxS card, x= 3,4,5,6,7 IBM System z 1 10GbE SFP + Switch

Lenovo RackSwitch G7028Network 2 RJ45 cable Network Recommended network configuration
The following components are required for a fully redundant (high availability) network between IBM z Systems and the IBM Integrated Analytics System (M4001-003, M4001-006, M4001-010).
Quantity Product Location 2 OSA-ExpressxS card, x= 3,4,5,6,7 IBM System z 6 Optical fiber cables Network 2 10GbE SFP + Switch

Lenovo RackSwitch G8124ENetwork 6 IBM/BNT® 10Gb SFP + Optical Transceiver Switch 2 1 GbE RJ45 Switch
Lenovo RackSwitch G7028Network 4 RJ45 cable Network Call-home function
To use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) call-home function with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator, your network must have been prepared accordingly:
- Two cables are required between the IBM Integrated Analytics System and the HMC network switch.
- A sufficient number of IP addresses must have been defined for the purpose. That is, each accelerator processing node requires a static IP address in the HMC network. In addition, a floating IP address must be defined, which is used for the head node.
- The network connection between IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator and the HMC must be a switched connection (Layer-2 network), where the IP addresses of both devices are in the same subnet. A routed network connection (Layer-3 network) won't work.
In many cases, the support engineer makes the necessary provisions during the initial installation of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator on the basis of the submitted site survey. However, if you do not yet meet the network requirements, you must open a service request.
Network requirements for acceleration on IBM Z
Note:
The following applies unless limited by other product documentation.General Requirements
Management Network
For appliance installation and management, a management network is required.
Detailed requirements:- For the supported network interfaces, see the table below.
- A Web browser (Firefox or Chrome) with network access to the LPAR(s).
- If the OSA interface is used, one OSA Express card (1 GbE is sufficient) as network adapter for this management network.
- Port 0 of the OSA Express card must be used and
- The OSA adapter must be configured in QDIO mode (CHPID OSX or OSD).
- If a Firewall is in place for this management network, at least HTTP/HTTPS ports (80 and 443) must be accessible for the appliance and the machine running the Web browser in this network.
We recommend to separate the management network from the dedicated Data Network (aka Db2 Network).
If IP addresses defined for the appliance and the machine running the Web browser are in different networks and network routing is implemented, the corresponding gateway must be specified during LPAR network definition.
Data Network
For query acceleration on IBM Z, a TCP/IP network connection is required between the affected Db2 for z/OS subsystems and the Accelerator. This connection is referred to as “Data Network” or as "Db2 Network".
Cluster Network (multi-node only)
See below for the section "Requirements for inter-node communication in multi-node installations". It describes why the RoCE communication must be used for the inter-node communication between accelerator SSC-LPARs.

- The recommended Network types in the table above have been emphasized in bold.
- For Network Express interfaces, RocE interfaces, and OSA interfaces, 10GB or 25GB adapters are supported.
- For Configuration of Network Express adapters, see the following manuals:
- IBM z17 Configuration Setup, chapter 15.2.3 "Defining a NETH PCIe function"
- IBM Z and LinuxONE Secure Service Container User's Guide, chapter 3.
- For the accelerator LPARs (meaning SSC LPARs),
- it is mandatory to configure the Network Express adapters in Hybrid mode (CPHID type = NETH).
- Network Express adapters configured as OSH/EQDIO are not supported.
- For a z/OS LPAR (suchas a Db2 LPAR),
- it is mandatory to configure the Network Express adapters with CPHID type = OSH.
- Classic OSA cards carried forward to an IBM z17™ or an IBM LinuxONE™ Emperor 5 system, must be configured with CHPID=OSD.
- (*1) Hipersockets can be used for the Data network, if the Db2 subsystem runs in an LPAR on the same CEC as the accelerator.
- Running the Accelerator on IBM z17™ requires maintenance level 7.5.14.1 or later and MCL Driver D61C Bundle S15 or later.
OSA Express
Z/OS administrators (system programmers) who are responsible for deploying / configuring OSA or the communication with Linux on IBM Z environments, should read the IBM z/OS Communications Server and OSA-Express Best Practices white paper. Network bandwidth and speed impact overall solution performance. For OSA interfaces we therefore recommend a dedicated OSA Express card and 10GbE (25 GbE) connectivity with Jumbo Frames.
Note:
When using an OSA Express 7s or 6s card in shared mode, the installation of D41C Bundle s80a (z15) or D51C Bundle s22a (z16) could lead to connectivity problems between Db2 for z/OS LPAR and the accelerator LPAR residing on the same mainframe server.
Shared mode means that the network traffic does not go to a switch.
Recommendation:
If you are running a layer 2 host to a layer 3 host and using a shared OSA adapter with the OSA doing the internal routing between the LPARs, we recommend customer to update to Bundle S84a or Bundle S27 accordingly.
There won't be a connectivity problem if the OSA card is shared but the internal path is not used, meaning: the network traffic is routed by an external switch.
Firewall
If a Firewall is in place for the network between the accelerator and the Db2 for z/OS-LPAR, at least the following ports must be accessible for the IP addresses assigned to the accelerator and z/OS LPAR:
1400, 1401, 1500, 1600, 2222, 11301-11350, 11351-11399, 11400, 11401, 51113, plus GDPS server ports (if GDPS support is used).VLANs (access and trunk interfaces) are supported for networks configured for the accelerator. A trunk interface can carry traffic for two or more VLANs and requires VLAN specification in the network interface on the HMC (for the "management network") or the data network, connecting to Db2 for z/OS.
Requirements for inter-node communication in multi-node installations
Why RoCE-communication must be used in multi-node installations of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator
The RoCE-communication will be possible when using theNetwork Express interface on IBM z17 or on IBM LinuxONE Emperor 5 (configured in Hybrid mode with CHPID type=NETH).
(requires Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.14.1 or later and MCL Driver D61C Bundle S15 or later.)- PCI adapter with a RoCE card on IBM z16, z15, z14 or IBM Linux ONE Emperor 4, III, or II.
Very high workload in multi-node installations of Db2 Analytics Accelerator on IBM zSystems can lead to inefficient query processing, resource contention, and potential system instability. Using RoCE-communication will reduce IFL resource contention, ensure predictable query runtimes, and enhance operational stability.
Therefore, the RoCE-communication must be used for the inter-node communication between accelerator SSC-LPARs.
IBM Z servers prior to the z17 generation:
For inter-node communication, it is recommended to bond two 25 GbE RoCE cards. The primary purpose of bonding is to deliver a performance increase to 50 Gb. A second purpose is to provide high availability. Click here for information how to configure the cluster network of an accelerator multi-node installation for the use of RoCE-communication.

Recommended Db2-PTFs
To determine all (Db2-)PTFs recommended for use with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7, use the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command in conjunction with FIXCAT HOLDDATA as follows:
- Acquire and RECEIVE the latest HOLDDATA file onto your z/OS system. Use your normal service acquisition portal or download
the two (2) year HOLDDATA files here: Enhanced HOLDDATA for z/OS .
Ensure you select 'FULL' from the Download NOW column (last 730 days) to receive the FIXCAT HOLDDATA, as the other files do not contain FIXCAT HOLDDATA. Run the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command on your z/OS systems and specify
- For V7.1: Fix Category FIXCAT (IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R1)
- For V7.5: Fix Categories FIXCAT (IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R1, IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V7R5).
The report will identify missing PTFs associated with that categories on that system. For more information about the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command, see here.- Periodically acquire the latest HOLDDATA file and rerun the REPORT MISSINGFIX command to determine if there are new recommended (Db2-)PTFs for IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS V7.
- Acquire and RECEIVE the latest HOLDDATA file onto your z/OS system. Use your normal service acquisition portal or download
GDPS support (Accelerator on IBM Z only)
With maintenance level 7.5.1 (or higher) the integration with IBM GDPS ® (Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex) for high availability and disaster recovery is supported. This requires the following GDPS product versions:
- GDPS Metro: Version 4.2 or higher
- GDPS Metro Global - GM: Version 4.3 or higher (for 3-site support)
GDPS Metro Global GM 3-site and 4-site configurations are supported if the PTF for APAR PH27382 has been installed.
Note:
Please see the technote 'How to migrate DASD devices of Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS defined for GDPS failover support'.
The support of GDPS requires the use of the Processor Resource/Systems Manager (PR/SM) mode (rather than using the Dynamic Partition Manager (DPM) mode).
Incremental update
The incremental update function of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS® allows you to update accelerator-shadow tables continually. Changes to the data in original Db2 for z/OS tables are thus propagated to the corresponding target tables with a high frequency and just a brief delay. This way, query results from an accelerator are always extracted from recent, close-to-real-time data.
Integrated Synchronization (release 7.5 or higher)
Integrated synchronization is a built-in product feature that makes it easy to set up incremental updates. It does not require IBM InfoSphere Data Replication for z/OS (CDC), and therefore requires fewer customization and activation steps. In addition, integrated synchronization has further advantages:
- Reduced complexity.
- Updates are processed very fast.
- Reduced CPU consumption on the mainframe because most of the processing is done on the client side (accelerator).
- On the mainframe, the workload can be handled by IBM z Systems® Integrated Information Processors (zIIP).
- Speedier service request processing through better support channel integration
Integrated synchronization requires- Db2 13 for z/OS or Db2 12 for z/OS with PTFs UI80519, UI77365, UI75930, UI71876, UI69536, and UI63356 installed, running at function level V12R1M500
- Distributed data facility (DDF) with a secure port, configured for network encryption through AT-TLS
- For data sharing groups: ability to always connect to the same member, for example by using a member-specific secure port that has a local alias.
- IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS Version 7.5 for Db2 12
- Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.8 or later for Db2 13 for z/OS
Incremental update (using IBM InfoSphere Data Replication for z/OS)
IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS (CDC) is included in the IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator product package. Please find information about the recommended CDC PTFs here.
Note:
With Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.13, the incremental update function using IIDR/CDC requires customization of the the z/OS component Integrated Cryptographic Service Facility (ICSF) for an AES-256 encryption.
