This fix can be obtained either by performing an Eclipse p2 update or an update in Installation Manager.  Note that Installation Manager is not supported for the initial releases of Aqua 3.3, see IBM z/OS Explorer Aqua 3.3 does not offer installation packages for IBM Installation Manager for further details.  It is available from CICS Explorer 5.5.28 (33.0.3) onwards.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The CICS Explorer for Aqua 3.2 and Aqua 3.3 (where Aqua refers to IBM Explorer for z/OS Aqua) system requirements are listed on the CICS Explorer System Requirements page.

CICS Explorer runs on IBM Explorer for z/OS 3.2 and IBM Explorer for z/OS 3.3. Please refer to the IBM Explorer for z/OS section of the z/OS Explorer, CICS Explorer, and CICS tools plug-ins release compatibility reference tables.

Installation information

Find further online installation instructions within the technote, entitled "Ordering maintenance for IBM CICS Explorer and CICS Explorer plug-ins".  Note that from CICS Explorer 5.5.19, fix packs are referred to as v.r.f (5.5.19) rather than v.r.m.f (5.5.0.19) to align with the way that the version is displayed within Eclipse.  In addition, fix packs based on Eclipse 2022-03 (Aqua 3.3) are referred to as 33.0.x and those based on Eclipse 4.8 (Aqua 3.2) are referred to as 32.0.x - see here for further details.

Prior to installation

It is recommended that you take a backup of the CICS Explorer workspace before upgrading. Online instructions on how to do this for the CICS Explorer can be found here: "Taking a backup of the CICS Explorer workspace".

Installing

This is covered in the "Ordering maintenance for IBM CICS Explorer and CICS Explorer plug-ins" technote. There are three main ways of installing the CICS Explorer fix pack.  Alternatively, you can install CICS Explorer from Eclipse Marketplace:

  • IBM Installation Manager
  • Eclipse P2 Update Site
  • Installing a stand-alone CICS Explorer using a compressed download file
  • Install CICS Explorer from Eclipse Marketplace
IBM Installation Manager
  1. Start Installation Manager and click File -> Preferences -> Repositories.
  2. Click Add Repository and add the URL http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.3/ (Eclipse 2022-03 base) or http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.2/ (Eclipse 4.8 base) which is the composite update site. Further details are available on the Aqua Download page.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Ensure the checkbox is selected against it once added.
  5. Click OK in the Preferences dialog to return.
  6. Click the Update option in the Installation Manager wizard and follow the prompts to update CICS Explorer.
Eclipse P2 Update Site
  1. Run the CICS Explorer as usual. If you intend to use the composite update site and you know that it is already available, you can skip to the next step.
    1. To add the composite update site, select Help -> Install New Software... from the top menu.
    2. Click the Available Software Sites hyperlink.
      1. Select the Add... button.
      2. Type in a name for this update site.
      3. Enter the following URL http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.3/ (Eclipse 2022-03 base) or http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.2/ (Eclipse 4.8 base) into the Location text box.
      4. Click OK.
      5. Ensure the checkbox is selected against it once added.
    3. Click OK in the Preferences dialog to return.
    4. Click Cancel button or exit dialog to return.
  2. Select Help -> Check For Updates.
  3. If any are available, follow instructions in the dialogs to install.
Installing a stand-alone CICS Explorer using a compressed download file
  1. Go to Install Eclipse Tools and follow the instructions there to install.
  2. Choose Eclipse p2 as your installation client and Starting from fresh as your starting point.  The IBM CICS SDK for Enterprise Java and Liberty is not included in the compressed file. You must install it separately.
Installing CICS Explorer from Eclipse Marketplace

Uninstalling if necessary

If you decide that you want to revert back to the old version of the CICS Explorer, you are able to replace the .zosexplorer folder with the backup that you made prior to upgrading.

  • From the welcome screen, click the Tutorials icon. The icon names are displayed when you hover over them.
  • From the main menu bar, click: Help -> Help Contents -> CICS Explorer User Guide.
