Error description
-
When trying to check the amount of space for taking extends in GDSA storage using the CICS Explorer, one must subtract SMSLVABYTES from SMSMEMLIMIT and round down. When entering "10 GB" in the Quick Filter, it issues a red X saying "10 GB is not a valid number". If one enters "10", it returns every result under 10 GB. The Quick Filter should be updated to use the same unit of measurement as the column, or it should be updated to accept 10 GB as value to compare against what is displayed.

Problem summary
-
A user is unable to see that the units value for quick filters is specified in bytes. An early fix put a 'bytes' hint in the text field however on Windows this does not appear because the hint is cleared out when the quick filter text box is selected, and the first filter box is automatically selected. It is made more difficult because the storage amount fields are rounded up to KB, MB, GB in the column cells and although the user can hover over one of these values to see the actual numbers, they then must remember the actual value to type into the quick filter.
Problem conclusion
-
- A 'bytes' label has been added for byte value quick filters after the text entry field. - The code that displays storage amounts in Bytes, Kilobytes etc only prefixes the value with a tilde ' ' if the value has been rounded. - A new 'Copy Value' menu item has been added to the right click context menu. This enables the correct amount in bytes to be copied without having to remember it from the hover text. . This fix will be made available in Version 5.5.0.10 of the CICS Explorer. .
