Why does the CICS Explorer for Aqua .zip file now contain a version number like 32.0.1, 33.0.1 or 34.0.1?
Answer
In October 2022, the release train Aqua 3.3 (based on Eclipse 2022-03) was released and, subsequent to this, in October 2024, the release train Aqua 3.4 (based on Eclipse 2024-03) was released. These new release trains join Aqua 3.2 (based on Eclipse 4.8).
To simplify the decision-making process for users, the CICS Explorer code is common across the Aqua 3.2, Aqua 3.3 and Aqua 3.4 streams. This means that, when choosing between Aqua 3.2, Aqua 3.3 or Aqua 3.4, the main decisions as a user are whether you require an Eclipse 4.8 base, an Eclipse 2022-03 base or an Eclipse 2024-03 base and whether any other tools that you require to shell share with are available in that version of the Aqua release train.
Because we could ship CICS Explorer 5.5.25 in "for Aqua 3.2", "for Aqua 3.3" and "for Aqua 3.4" forms, we've updated the version numbers of the compressed download files to indicate from which version of Aqua they were built. For example, the Windows CICS Explorer for Aqua .zip file will be similar to this:
cicsexplorer-aqua-33.0.1-win32-x86_64.zip
The version number will be 34.0.x, where the 34 represents Aqua 3.4, 33.0.x, where the 33 represents Aqua 3.3 or 32.0.x, where the 32 represents Aqua 3.2 and the x is incremented with each shipment.
When CICS Explorer is installed, you will still see the 5.5.x or similar version number in the Help -> About dialog, which allows IBM to pinpoint exactly which version of the code you are running.
