Key features of IBM CICS TX on Cloud

Certified Red Hat CICS TX Containers

CICS TX is built on top of the capabilities of IBM TXSeries® for Multiplatforms (TXSeries) V9.1.
CICS TX on Cloud provides Red Hat certified container image that can enable quicker time-to-value by providing pretested components on the Red Hat OpenShift container platform. With this capability you can easily move existing applications on distributed platforms to containers in cloud.

CICS TX supports a subset of APIs and features of CICS Transaction Server for z/OS® (CICS TS). It allows you to create high value hybrid applications which connect to CICS TS. CICS TX Operators support day 1 and day 2 operations.

Container orchestration using industry standard tools

You can achieve orchestration of CICS TX containers using K8s, which is an open-source container-orchestration system. It allows elastic scaling, self-healing, automated deployment and rollback of containerized CICS applications. This is also a widely accepted technology across multiple cloud vendors.

Integrated IBM COBOL for Linux x86

COBOL for Linux on x86 1.1 is the latest addition to the IBM COBOL compiler family which includes Enterprise COBOL for z/OS and COBOL for AIX. COBOL for Linux on x86 is a productive and powerful development environment for building and modernizing COBOL applications. It includes an optimizing COBOL compiler and a COBOL runtime library. COBOL for Linux on x86 is based on the same advanced optimization technology as Enterprise COBOL for z/OS. It offers both performance and programming capabilities for developing business critical COBOL applications for Linux on x86 systems. The CICS TX 11.1 image includes the IBM COBOL compiler and runtime components required for CICS COBOL application development and deployment.

Monitoring experience in cloud

Observe CICS applications deployed on a cloud platform using industry standard tooling. Logs from application clusters can be centralized and analyzed using elastic stack. Key operational metrics are exposed to Prometheus (an open source monitoring system) and they can be visualized using Grafana (an open source metrics visualization and analytics platform).

Scale CICS online applications

CICS TX on Cloud allows the scope of CICS resources to be global across multiple instances of the same region. This enables horizontal scaling of CICS online applications without requiring application changes.

Integration with enterprise products

CICS TX on Cloud provides optimized bi-directional connectivity with CICS TS on IBM Z® and TXSeries for Multiplatforms. It can extend transaction capabilities with WebSphere Application Server using CICS Transaction Gateway and share data and business logic.
