Introducing IBM Cloud Platform Metrics for Db2 on Cloud

2 min read

Set up platform metrics on IBM Cloud Monitoring to automatically receive metrics from all provisioned IBM Cloud Db2 instances.

IBM® Db2® on Cloud is a fully managed public cloud service on IBM Cloud. As a relational database, it delivers fast query processing with enterprise-level performance and capabilities for online transactional processing (OLTP). The new Enterprise High Availability plan runs the powerful Db2 11.5 engine and provides multi-zone region support in a three HA node configuration to ensure ultimate redundancy.

IBM Cloud Monitoring is a fully managed, enterprise-grade monitoring service that you can include as part of your IBM Cloud architecture to gain operational visibility into the performance and health of your applications, services and platforms. Using IBM Cloud Monitoring and platform metrics, users can monitor IBM Cloud services and resources where an agent cannot be installed.

By simply setting up IBM Cloud Monitoring with platform metrics enabled, you will automatically receive metrics from all provisioned IBM Cloud Db2 instances. You can launch into a Db2 on Cloud monitoring dashboard to monitor real-time data like connections and resource consumption. In addition, database metrics can be used to define alerts to react on unplanned occurrences.

IBM Cloud Monitoring is the preferred IBM Cloud solution for access to all your performance and operational data from a single platform and is available in the following regions

Enabling platform metrics

Complete the following steps to enable platform metrics:

  1. Log in to IBM Cloud.
  2. Click View resources.
  3. In the Services section, click the IBM Db2 on Cloud instance that you plan to monitor.
  4. Click the overflow menu. Then, select Add monitoring to configure platform metrics in the region of your IBM Db2 on Cloud instance. Note: If the menu choices include the option Monitoring, then your instance is already configured for platform metrics.
  5. Provision an instance of the IBM Cloud Monitoring service.

Viewing platform metrics

To monitor IBM Db2 on Cloud metrics, you must launch the IBM Cloud Monitoring web UI instance that is enabled for platform metrics in the region where your IBM Db2 on Cloud instance is available.
