Surprise, surprise – we have a gift for you.

Spring is fast approaching and what better way to get in the spirit than a new release from IBM and HCL. We are excited to announce that as of today, IBM Domino Mobile Apps for Apple iPads is available for download in the Apple App Store.

With IBM Domino Mobile Apps, your entire organization can access every single one of its Domino applications from an iPad, and bring the power of Domino to end users wherever they are working — online or off. IBM Domino Mobile Apps is free of charge and publicly available in the Apple App Store today.

What is IBM Domino Mobile Apps?

We are adding IBM Domino Mobile Apps as a new client in the Domino product portfolio, allowing you to seamlessly access your Domino applications on a mobile device. IBM Domino Mobile Apps works in the same way as your Notes client or ICAA.

With IBM Domino Mobile Apps your applications run without modification — so you can tap into the power of Domino anywhere, anytime. Using replication, your Domino applications will remain accessible even without an internet connection, and your data is locally encrypted to provide the security you need.

What do I need to get started?

You need an Apple iPad, a Notes ID file, and a network connection to your Domino server.

After you have installed IBM Domino Mobile Apps from the Apple App Store, follow the easy setup instructions provided in this article to configure your iPad with your Notes ID. When this is done, you will be ready to start using your existing Domino applications. IBM Domino Mobile Apps is available worldwide.

Are there any limitations to using IBM Domino Mobile Apps?

In this first release there is a small number of technical limitations that we have documented here. For the products you access using this app, you agree to obtain and maintain from IBM an active Subscription and Support and the appropriate enterprise Client Access License.

We value your feedback!

What’s next?

The Apple iPad is the first platform on which IBM Domino Mobile Apps is being released. A version for Android tablets is in development and a beta version will be made available shortly. Support for IBM Domino Mobile Apps on smartphones (iOS and Android) is planned, but requires additional work in order to render Domino applications properly on small screens. Stay tuned for more information.

Special thanks to Andrew Davis, Russ Fahey, Scott Vrusho, Scott Good, Yingle Jia, Richard Jefts, and everyone else who helped to make this release possible.
