Solutions for Consumer packaged goods/retail

Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies and the Retailers who bring their products to market are facing a competitive and economic environment unlike anything that has come before. Their primary challenges are complexity, marketplace globalization and speed. CPG and Retail companies operate in a fast paced environment where the consumer has a new sense of power and winning at shelf, and in use is paramount. Yet they are operating with disconnected people and antiquated systems. To win against these challenges, industry leaders are aiming to answer these primary questions:

1. How might we invent products that deliver on their promise at extraordinary speed?
2. How might we create packaging that drives purchase and delights my consumer?
3. How might we deliver a superior shopping experience?

Dassault Systèmes, the 3D Experience Company, provides tangible business value across a broad range of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) initiatives including a consumer experience solution that uses intuitive 3D tools to create virtual products and experience them inside a store. But Dassault Systèmes also provides CPG and Retail companies with a packaging design and analysis solution including artwork and labeling design in multiple languages, product portfolio management, supplier quality and sourcing management, enterprise project management, regulatory compliance management, and comprehensive formula design and analysis.

Dassault Systèmes is an IBM Premier Business Partner and their Collaborative New Product Development and Introduction solution has been validated for IBM’s Consumer Products Industry Framework. Consumer Products Solution Brief

Transcript IBM and Dassault Systèmes at NRF 2011 This is the transcript of IBM and Dassault Systèmes at the National Retail Federation (NRF) event in New York City in January 2011. Hi I’m David McCarty, Director of Consumer Products Industry Solutions for IBM. I’m here at NRF with Francois Bouffard, VP of Business Development for the fast moving Consumer Goods industry within Dassault Systèmes. He’s here today to talk about Dassault Systèmes’ participation in the IBM Consumer Products Industry Framework ecosystem. Dassault Systèmes (DS) is no stranger to IBM as they’ve been a partner with IBM for over 30 years. Myself personally, I’ve been working with DS for about eight years and have had a great relationship with Francois. David: For the audience, Francois, can you please talk a little about DS? Francois: Yes. First of all, thank you for having us here today. It is a very good opportunity and we appreciate that. DS is a software company, the leader in the PLM industry. PLM stands for Product Lifecycle Management and what we do is help products develop new products, from the ideation concept phase through the manufacturability of the product and up to the end of life of the products. David: Can you please describe some of your experiences in the consumer products industry? Francois: In the consumer products industry, we have been in this area for over 10 years. We have customers such as Barilla, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble. These companies have very complex new product introduction systems and Dassault Systèmes allows them to develop in a collaborative environment, both internally and externally with their suppliers. For their new products, this ensures much more agility, speed to market and mitigating risk. That is what these customers are looking for when they are using our products. David: Can you describe a little more how your solutions help consumer products companies drive more success product launches and product development processes? Francois: Yes. To design a new bottle, for instance, a new container for a consumer product is a very costly important process that takes a lot of time. Our solution using 3D tools allows them to quickly create a new shape, a new format that now using our solution such as 3DVIA allows them to do lifelike experience. This takes the virtual product, before it “really” exists and put it into a shelf on a virtual shore that represents an existing store. Then they can run some customer focus groups and look at the reaction of the customers to the new product that has been proposed but has not yet been produced. David: What I like about those solutions too is that it is not just how the consumer will react to the new shape but that you can also model the manufacturing process and understand the strength of the new plastic bottle. We all know that green is a hot topic and something that can reduce the amount of packaging, the amount of material, is very interesting. Is that also something that DS can also handle? Francois: Exactly, that allows companies to manufacture for an area, to optimize the manufacturability of the product. That allows them to become much leaner, much more efficient, cost efficient and so on. David: Excellent. Now we are very excited about DS being a participant in our new IBM Consumer Products Industry Framework. Could you please help our audience better understand the specific value that you bring to the framework and the unique opportunities for our clients. Francois: The solution we have is a full consumer products set of solutions that have been proven in other areas. Based on experience that we have in the consumer products industry, based on our long term relationship with IBM, based also on the fact that all of our software works and is validated and certified on the IBM server and software infrastructure becomes close to a guarantee for success for consumer product customers. David: Thank You Francois. It is great to see you as always and we are very excited that Dassault Systèmes is participating with the IBM Consumer Products Industry Framework. We are very excited about the opportunities that we have, as partners, to bring value to you, our clients. We look forward to working with you our clients. Thanks, again Francois.
