Getting started - what you need to know

The Sandbox scripted exercises use accounts on a shared server and client software virtual machines that you access remotely from your workstation over the Internet. Both the server and client resources are provided by IBM in the Sandbox infrastructure through this portal. The lab exercises will take you, step by step, through the process of accessing these resources and then accomplishing one or more learning tasks.

All Sandbox users are encouraged to use client software virtual machines that you access remotely from your workstation. There are a variety of remote access methods supported, the majority of which do not require any software to be installed on your workstation. The number of images available concurrently is limited, and each session lasts a maximum of 4 hours. If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a client image to use during a peak time, please be sure to try back later. Start your Sandbox session now!

IBM i developers: Before starting any IBM i-related lab exercises, make sure you follow the Explore RPG and COBOL development using modern tools Lab 01 - Getting started, first. This takes you through the steps needed to obtain the necessary credentials and establish a connection to the demonstration server.
