IBM Statement in Support of Bipartisan EXPIRE Act

May 19, 2014

To the Members of the United States Senate:

IBM strongly supports the bipartisan tax extenders legislation, S. 2260 the EXPIRE Act and urges the Senate to pass the bill without further delay. The tax provisions included in this legislation, such as the R&D tax credit, are measures that support economic growth. The R&D credit, in particular, has long enjoyed bipartisan support since it was first enacted more than thirty years ago. Congress has recognized that research and innovation strengthens the nation’s competitiveness and supports jobs and investment in the United States.

Together with others in the technology industry, IBM has long supported making the R&D tax credit permanent. Yet even another temporary extension now has been delayed in the Senate, making business planning difficult and deepening economic uncertainty.

IBM strongly urges immediate action in the Senate to pass the tax extenders legislation.
