Top 5 Highlights from VMworld 2017

With VMworld US & Europe coming to a close, we’re taking a look back into activities and announcements that took place over the past couple of weeks. Below is a recap of some of the most exciting stories for those who didn’t get a chance to hear the news on the ground.

VMworld

  1. IBM Cloud was announced as one of the first design partners for VMware HCX Technologies, which delivers secure and seamless interoperability and mobility between IBM Cloud and any VMware-based environments with no downtime. VMware HCX Technologies helps make connectivity and migration simple.

  2. Vodafone announced that it is offering an international service that enables enterprise customers to move existing VMware workloads from on premise environments to the IBM Cloud without incurring the cost and risk associated with re-tooling operations, re-architecting applications and re-designing security policies. Vodafone customers can quickly deploy and move VMware-based workloads with confidence and speed.

  3. IBM announced that Syniverse, a global connectivity enabler, adopted IBM Cloud in order to expand flexibility and capacity to serve rapidly changing mobile service needs for their customers. Syniverse operates a hybrid cloud environment and uses IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions to help manage seasonal spikes in traffic. This allows them to quickly scale up existing VMware environments and connect to the IBM Cloud.

  4. Renown futurist, Dr. Michio Kaku, joined IBM to discuss the next wave of technology and how AI, Cloud, Robotics and Biotech are the wealth engine for the future. He predicted that one path toward prosperity in the future is AI — and the key to AI is cloud. Eventually intelligence will all be in the cloud and IBM is helping to pave the way with Watson.

  5. The IBM Cloud booth offered an array of resources including demos and quick 10 minute presentations. Attendees were able to get a first-hand look at how our solutions work from IBM experts. One of the top sessions illustrated the flexible deployment options associated with IBM Cloud for VMware solutions.  Another showcased how to connect VMware workloads to IBM Cloud cognitive, developer and security service  Last but not least – attendees learned how to quickly scale hybrid cloud workloads with IBM Cloud and VMware vRealize Automation.
