Hello Natural Language Understanding (NLU)!

We are super-excited to announce the availability of Watson Natural Language Understanding Service (NLU), offering natural language processing for advanced text analytics.

With a sophisticated suite of natural language processing capabilities, NLU can analyze text and extract meta-data from unstructured content such as concepts, entities, keywords, categories, sentiment, emotion, relations, semantic roles. You can also customize the text analysis with NLU for linguistic nuances specific to your domain or industry (such as entities and relations) with custom models developed using Watson Knowledge Studio. With customization, you can further improve the accuracy of meta-data extraction. Whether it is social media NLUmonitoring, content recommendation, or advertising optimization, NLU can be easily put to use for extracting the hard to find insights from unstructured content.

Delivered as a cloud-based Watson Service on Bluemix, NLU works out of the box with a simple to use API framework. This makes it possible for developers to leverage advanced natural language processing techniques without being an expert with machine learning or data science. The service also offers a rich set of enrichment features and broad language coverage with its comprehensive NLP stack. In addition, NLU can be used in tandem with other Watson services to create powerful solutions for more complex use cases and easily scale expertise.
