Our mobile backend applications are compatible with iOS 9.  We tested our samples after upgrading them to the iOS 9 SDK, and they worked with Bluemix without any further updates.

The following boilerplates and services support iOS 9:

  • MobileFirst Services Starter boilerplate
  • Push for iOS 8 (Push Notifications) service
  • Advanced Mobile Access (Mobile Client Access) service
  • Cloudant mobile extensions.

The following boilerplates and services have toleration support for iOS 9:

  • Mobile Cloud boilerplate
  • Push service
  • Mobile Application Security service
  • Mobile Data service.

For more information about what’s new in iOS 9, check out the iOS 9 release notes.

Although your app will work with Bluemix without any further updates, there are some ways that the iOS 9 update might affect the functionality of your app.  Review the following information if you haven’t already:

  • Transport security: Because of the new app transport security feature in iOS 9, you might see new permission and security behaviors.  You can find more information regarding these changes and possible configurations for app transport security in iOS: App transport security technote
  • Facebook authentication: If you are using Facebook authentication in your app, review the information and instructions for iOS 9 on the Facebook developers site
  • Swift 2.0: Our samples were updated to use the latest updates in Swift syntax.  For more information about Swift 2.0, see the Swift website.
  • Bitcode: Apple introduced a new feature called Bitcode with iOS 9.  Our SDK does not currently support bitcode. Your application will fail to build and archive unless you disable bitcode completely. In Xcode > Build Settings > Build Options, set Enable Bitcode to No. For more information, see MobileFirst Platform {dev} blog: ATS and Bitcode in iOS 9.

For more details, see IBM MobileFirst Platform Foundation support for iOS 9.
