When it comes to developing products for cloud, mobile and social, you need an agile and flexible approach. During their SXSW Interactive session “Innovating Development of Cloud, Mobile and Social” on Monday, IBMers Nathan Vega and Moe Abdula discussed just how Bluemix is defining the next generation of innovation and entrepreneurship. They shared how new approaches to development and new APIs and capabilities can radically change product/app definition, design, development and deployment for themselves and their clients. The #SXSWIBM session even ended with a live demo, showcasing an IoT app Moe built on Bluemix, the Digital Innovation Platform.

Moe Abdula @ SXSWi: There are people out there making major changes with cloud. They're called developers.

Cloud is the equalizer: During the session, Nathan and Moe emphasized how cloud gives organizations of all sizes the ability to innovate at speed. Also, data put to work in the cloud is the source of differentiation – it is analyzed in all of is forms and sources to provide context and deliver new insights. Mobile is the activation point to engage customers in context using cloud-based service and social is revolutionizing customer touch points with cloud-based social media.

Hybrid cloud is more than the sum of its parts: It is open by design. Moe discussed how the new hybrid cloud gives you the freedom to choose and change your environments, data and services.

APIs power the modern, digital supply chain. Developers can share, reuse, (re)combine and deliver new capabilities quicker. APIs bring together existing systems and modern tools. Moe highlighted the Citi Mobile Challenge as a great example of IBM Bluemix and industry APIs enabling developers to quickly innovate mobile solutions for financial technology.

Cognitive-infused apps: During the session, Vega went into how apps running on Bluemix— using services like Personality Insights —enhance, scale and accelerate human expertise by embedding Watson services and content through cloud-based APIs.

Stay tuned for a video of Nathan and Moe’s SXSWi session to be posted! And as always, we invite you to follow @IBMBluemix for the latest updates and announcements.
