IBM moves into the Gartner Leaders Quadrant for Cloud FP&A

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is among the most prestigious evaluations of technology providers in the industry. And Gartner, Inc., “the world’s leading research and advisory company,” has just positioned IBM in the Leaders quadrant of its Magic Quadrant for Cloud Financial Planning and Analysis Solutions for 2018. Needless to say, we at IBM are pretty pleased.

What makes a “Leader”?

In a report accompanying the new Magic Quadrant, Gartner researchers described the attributes of those select few who make it into the Leader quadrant. They said, “Leaders provide mature offerings that meet market demand and have demonstrated the vision necessary to sustain their market position as requirements evolve.” The report added that “Leaders typically possess a large, satisfied customer base (relative to the size of the market) and enjoy high visibility within the market. Their size and financial strength enable them to remain viable in a challenging economy.”

Size and strength

When it comes to size and strength, few software providers can match IBM. With an international presence and customers in virtually all industries, IBM occupies a unique place in the industry. The financial planning and analysis (FP&A) solution that qualified IBM for this Magic Quadrant is IBM Planning Analytics. Built on the multidimensional calculation engine of IBM TM1, the IBM Planning Analytics solution is designed to meet the planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis needs of organizations from large multinationals to line-of-business departments to small to medium-sized businesses. In addition, IBM Planning Analytics on Cloud has been on the market for just over two years. So we believe that the fact it was positioned in the Leaders quadrant speaks well for the robustness of the solution and its ability to meet the needs of the market and our clients.

Get the rest of the story

We’re delighted to receive this honor from Gartner and to be identified as a Leader in this vitally important software market. And while this Magic Quadrant focuses exclusively on cloud-based solutions, we think it’s important to add that one of biggest strengths of IBM Planning Analytics lies in the fact we offer the same solution on cloud and on premises, so customers get to choose the deployment method that fits their needs, without compromising on functionality.
