A few months ago, in June 2020, we announced the general availability of Netezza for IBM Cloud Pak® for Data on IBM Cloud and Amazon Web Services.

Today, in keeping with our IBM hybrid multicloud strategy, we are once again excited to announce yet another major milestone as we make Netezza ubiquitous in the cloud — the immediate general availability of Netezza on Microsoft Azure.

With this move, customers will now have multiple deployment choices for their Enterprise Data Warehouse and Analytics modernization needs: on-premises with the hyper-converged IBM Cloud Pak for Data System or any cloud (IBM, AWS, Azure, and/or hybrid cloud environments).

Here’s what we are delivering

Scalable and extensible multi-tenant architecture

A scale-out multi-tenant architecture with storage and compute separation built on an open cloud-native extensible platform — IBM Cloud Pak for Data.

Deploy anywhere! Choose the data center or availability zone closest to you, set the number of compute units and amount of storage required to run, and go.

Seamlessly lift and shift to the cloud

Accelerate your journey to the cloud with no drama through a frictionless lift and shift. Activate risk-free upgrades from your on-premises appliances to the cloud with a single built-in command — nz_migrate — to clone your data (warehouse) environment onto any cloud. Or, alternatively, use nzbackup to IBM Cloud Object Storage or Amazon S3 or Azure Blobs — then, nzrestore into your new target cloud data warehouse.

Secure

Netezza encrypts data in motion and at rest, with a deployment to your own virtual private cloud (VPC) or VLAN.

Build scale-out data lakes

Netezza provides the capability to build a scale-out, governance-infused, and secured data lake. Or, you can integrate with existing data lakes on IBM Cloud Object Storage, Amazon S3, and now on Azure Blob to ingest data and execute SQL queries on these existing object stores for actionable analytics.

Highly available

Leverage a containerized database engine deployed to compute nodes — orchestrated by Red Hat OpenShift — providing failure detection and fast failure recovery.

Reliable

Netezza enables scheduled or ad-hoc backups with the ability to do a partial (table/schema-level) or full restore. Backups are stored in Azure Data Lakes, giving you an inexpensive data store with infinite scale and zone/cross-region availability.

Smart

Deploy data science at scale with IBM Cloud Pak for Data’s built-in Watson technologies and Netezza in-database machine learning. Access extensive support for opensource frameworks to build predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Take the Netezza test drive

Experience the simplicity, speed, scalability, and intelligence of Netezza as part of a system of insight through IBM Cloud Pak for Data, on-premises, in the cloud, or both. In preview now: IBM watsonx BI Assistant is your AI-powered business analyst and advisor

3 min read - The business intelligence (BI) software market is projected to surge to USD 27.9 billion by 2027, yet only 30% of employees use these tools for decision-making. This gap between investment and usage highlights a significant missed opportunity. The primary hurdle in adopting BI tools is their complexity. Traditional BI tools, while powerful, are often too complex and slow for effective decision-making. Business decision-makers need insights tailored to their specific business contexts, not complex dashboards that are difficult to navigate. Organizations…

IBM unveils Data Product Hub to enable organization-wide data sharing and discovery

2 min read - Today, IBM announces Data Product Hub, a data sharing solution which will be generally available in June 2024 to help accelerate enterprises’ data-driven outcomes by streamlining data sharing between internal data producers and data consumers. Often, organizations want to derive value from their data but are hindered by it being inaccessible, sprawled across different sources and tools, and hard to interpret and consume. Current approaches to managing data requests require manual data transformation and delivery, which can be time-consuming and…

A new era in BI: Overcoming low adoption to make smart decisions accessible for all

5 min read - Organizations today are both empowered and overwhelmed by data. This paradox lies at the heart of modern business strategy: while there's an unprecedented amount of data available, unlocking actionable insights requires more than access to numbers. The push to enhance productivity, use resources wisely, and boost sustainability through data-driven decision-making is stronger than ever. Yet, the low adoption rates of business intelligence (BI) tools present a significant hurdle. According to Gartner, although the number of employees that use analytics and…
