Upgrading and Installing Facsimile Support

Troubleshooting

Problem

Resolving The Problem

This document contains information on upgrading and installing Facsimile Support.

This document contains two sections; one section for a new installation of the Facsimile Support product, and one section for upgrading.

There are two versions of Facsimile Support.
Facsimile Support V5R7M0 runs on OS releases V7R1M0 and higher (see NOTE)
Facsimile Support V5R8M0 runs on OS releases V7R1M0 and higher.
The recommendation is to use Facsimile Support V5R8M0.

NOTE: Facsimile Support V5R8M0 supports the new Ethernet Device Server, or WAN over LAN function, which is available only at OS V7R2M0. Facsimile Support V5R7M0 does not have support for the Ethernet Device Server. You can install Facsimile Support V5R7M0 or V5R8M0 on OS V7R2M0, but Facsimile Support V5R8M0 must be installed to use the net Ethernet Device Server function.
For more information on the Ethernet Device Server, see document IBM i 7.2 Ethernet Device Server Support (WAN over LAN).

The product is available on the Entitled Systems Support site.  If not, contact your business partner or contact the ESS team at 1-800-446-8989.
You need to register and log in with your IBM ID. If you are looking for 5798FAX V5R7M0 or higher, you need to make sure you select Multilingual on the language section.  Click Hide/Show next to 5798FAX to see V5R7M0 and V5R8M0. If left at the default of English, the version shown for download will be V5R2M0.

For IBM i 7.2 and later, 5798FAX can also be downloaded under Software Downloads by selecting IBM i for the Operating System, Version V7R2M0 or higher and selecting the 5770-SS1 product. After continuing, select your language, click hide/show for the 5770-SS1 product and then click hide/show for 5827 and select 'Selected Program Products for i'. The following products and feature are included in this delivery simplification:

IBM Administration Runtime Expert 1.1 (5733-ARE)
IBM Facsimile Support for i 5.8 (5798-FAX)

New Installation of Facsimile Support
  • - Upgrading Facsimile Support

    1. End Facsimile Support with the following command:
    ENDFAXSPT FAXD(*ALL) ENHSRV(*YES)

    2. Using the WRKSBS command, verify that the QFAXSBS and QFQSBS subsystems have ended.

    3. Confirm there are no locks on the QFAX library using the following command:
    WRKOBJLCK OBJ(QFAX) OBJTYPE(*LIB)

Note: This verifies that no one signed on has QFAX in their library list.

    4. If Enhanced Services is used, view/print the current Enhanced Services configuration so it can be reconfigured after the upgrade. Use the CFGFAXSRV command to view the current configuration or use the following command to print information concerning the configuration:
    DSPDTAARA DTAARA(QUSRSYS/QFQCFG) OUTPUT(*PRINT)

    5. If Enhanced Services is used, ensure the following files are located in the QUSRSYS library:
    - QAFQDE
    - QAFQDL
    - QAFQDLA
    - QAFQML
    - QAFQMLA
    - QAFQOSA
    - QAFQPRF
    - QAFQRCV
    - QAFQRLG
    - QAFQRTG
    - QAFQSD
    - QAFQSND
    - QAFQTE
    - QAFQTM
    - QAFQTP
    - QAFQTT

These files contain user information such as configuration, fax profiles, fax number lists, and distribution lists entries. If the files are not in the QUSRSYS library, copy or move them to the QUSRSYS library. These files can be restored from backup media too. If you see these file but also see entries with an O (QAFQDE and QAFQODE) then please delete the O entries and try to restore. If you only see entries with an O (ie: QAFQODE instead of QAFQDE) please rename and then try the RSTLICPGM command again. We have one file that does have an O in it so make sure you still have QAFQOSA as a physical file. If you do have to rename, please delete all the logical files associated so the list is just of the Physical Files and try the restore again. If this does not work please involve the Subject Matter Expert.

    6. Confirm there are no user-created logical files built on the files listed in Step 5 or over the QAFFTLOG file. Use the following command to display the database relations:
    DSPDBR FILE(QUSRSYS/QAFFTLOG)
    DSPDBR FILE(QUSRSYS/QAFQDE)
    DSPDBR FILE(QUSRSYS/QAFQDL)
    Etc.

User-created logicals must be deleted (those files that do not start with a Q). If assistance is needed deleting the logical file, locate the person who created the file or contact the Database group for further assistance.

    7. If upgrading Facsimile Support on the same system, ensure that the following files are restored to library QUSRSYS before installing the new version:
    - QAFFCFG (This contains your configuration information.)
Note: If hardware was upgraded on the same system, or when migrating to a different system, you will have to reconfigure the fax descriptions. There will be a change to the resource name or actual hardware type.

    - QAFFTLOG (This contains your transaction log.)
Note: Restoring this file is optional. It contains the history of all transactions.

    8. Delete the 5798FAX licensed program using the following command:
    DLTLICPGM LICPGM(5798FAX)
Verify that the QFAX library is deleted after running the DLTLICPGM command.

    9. Sign on to the i5/OS using the QSECOFR user ID and password.

    10. Add the QTEMP library to the library list with the following command:
    ADDLIBLE LIB(QTEMP)

    11. Insert the CD that contains the 5798FAX product in the drive.

    12. Install the licensed program.
    RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5798FAX) DEV(OPT01) LNG(2924)
**Where DEV is the device that has the install CD loaded and LNG is the 4-digit language code for the language being installed. The Facsimile Support product can support only one language on bilingual systems. 2924 is for English single-byte character set which is most commonly used.

If the QFRCCVNRST system value is not set to 1 and the FRCOBJCVN on the RSTLICPGM command is not set to *SYSVAL, the operation will fail with message CPF3888 indicating the product was not restored.

Note: If you receive message CPF3219 - Cannot delete file or member of file QAFFTMPTL, during the installation, use the DSPDBR FILE(QAFFTMPTL) command to determine if there are any logical files associated with the file.  Note the name of the logical files.  Delete the logical files and repeat step 12.  Re-create the logical files after the installation is complete.

    13. Load and apply the latest Facsimile Support PTFs, modem hardware PTFs, Print and TCP/IP PTFs:
Important Note: It is necessary to get all of the Facsimile Support, modem hardware and Print Group PTFs before proceeding to Step 14. If the modem is in an IOP-less environment, the latest IOP-less environment PTFs must be installed also.

You should reference Fax Not Supported on IOP-Less IOA at V5R4M0 or Below to determine if the modem is in an IOP-less environment

If the PTFs are not applied, Facsimile Support may not start, the fax line may not vary on requiring an IPL to recover, or the faxes may not fax correctly. Please ensure the latest Recommended Fixes, including Print and TCP/IP group PTFs are installed.  These PTFs can be found on the IBM i Support Recommended Fixes website.

    14. Create the fax description(s) and add the fax card(s) if a new system or modem is involved (the resources will likely have changed from the other system)
Configuring the D/T 576C (D/T 2893) Internal Modem for Facsimile Support
Configuring the 7852-400 Modem for Facsimile Support/400
Configuring the D/T 2771 or D/T 2772 with Facsimile Support
Configuring the D/T 2793/4793 Internal Modem for Facsimile Support
Configuring the D/T 2805 for Facsimile Support for IBM System i System

    15. Configure Enhanced Services
    Steps to Configuring Enhanced Services

    16. Start Facsimile Support:
    STRFAXSPT FAXD(FAXD01) ENHSRV(*YES)
