Configuring the D/T 2805 or D/T 6808 for Facsimile Support for IBM System i System

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document contains the configuration instructions for the D/T 2805 with Facsimile Support for iSeries.

Resolving The Problem

This document contains the configuration instructions for the D/T 2805 with Facsimile Support for iSeries.

General information on the D/T 2805 PCI Quad Modem:

oThe 2805 is a 4-line WAN modem adapter with four RJ-11 ports, supports V.92, 56K asynchronous SLIP/PPP and V.34 Fax applications at data rates up to 33.6 K via internal modems. Connection to the V.92 ports is via telephone cables. There is a IOPLESS version of this and it is a D/T 6808.
oSupported on R510 5798FAX or higher.
oSupported only on Model 270, 520, 550, 570 , 595, 810, 820, 830, 840, and 890.
oHas up to 4 ports configurable to fax.
oSpeed is up to 33K.
To assist with the configuration of the PCI D/T2805, you should do the following:
1.Confirm the following:

o Use the DSPSFWRSC command to confirm 5798FAX is installed

o Confirm that PTFs are applied.

PTFs for Facsimile Support for iSeries.

o If upgrading from previous hardware, use the DLTFAXD command to remove the previous configuration.

Note: Before deleting, use the PRTFAXCFG to print your previous configuration.
2.Determine what resources will be dedicated to fax lines.

Work with Communication Resources

From an operating system command line, type the following:

WRKHDWRSC TYPE(*CMN)

Press the Enter key.

Following is an example of what you will see when entering this command. The BOLD text shows the configuration for the D/T2805.

CMB02      2843  Operational           MFIO Processor
LIN02      2805 Operational            Comm Adapter
CMN02      2805  Operational           Comm Port
CMN03      2805  Operational           Comm Port
CMN04      2805  Operational           Comm Port
CMN05      2805  Operational           Comm Port
3.The following is the command required to complete the configuration. On an operating system command line, type the following:

CHGNETA MDMCNTRYID(xx)

where xx is the country ID of the box. For example, enter US, or if your box is in the UK but set up with US language system values, then type US. If it uses UK, then enter GB. Press the Enter key.

Note: Symptoms of the MDMCNTRYID being set incorrectly are:

o WRKLIND <faxline_name> - Option 8, line goes to FAILED status.

o The following messages appear in QSYSOPR MSGQ:

Message ID . . . . . . :   CPPC027
Message. . . . . . . . :   Activation failed.  Network attribute modem country ID
                                     not valid.

Message ID . . . . . . :   CPI59B2
Message  . . . . . . . :   Line FAXLINE1 failed.

o SRCB0038011 will be logged in the Problem Activity Log.
4.To determine the port number and appropriate resource, the following applies:
o If the card is installed vertically, port 0 is at the bottom.
o If the card is installed horizontally and clips are positioned towards the bottom, port 0 is the farthest right port (and vice versa).

Therefore, in the above example, if the card is in vertically, CMN02 would be port 0.
5.Create the Fax Description and complete the configuration of the card. On an operating system command line, type the following:

CRTFAXD

Press F4 to prompt, and fill in the following parameters:

Link type . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .LINKTYPE        *IMANALOG
Line description. . . . . . . . . . . . .LIND            FAXLINE1
Resource names. . . . . . . . . . . . . .RSRCNAME        CMN02      (see Steps 2 and 3 above)
Fax description . . . . . . . . . . . . .FAXD            FAXD01
Integrated modem device name. . . . . . .FAXIMDEV        FAXIM01
Print TSI banner. . . . . . . . . . . . .TSIBNR          *NO       (this can be *YES)
TSI position. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .TSIPOS          *INSERT
Text 'description'. . . . . . . . . . . .TEXT            *DFT

Press the Enter key.

Note: Do these steps for each port you want to configure for faxing. Each port on this card has a fax description.

Example of a second description:

Link type . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .LINKTYPE        *IMANALOG
Line description. . . . . . . . . . . . .LIND            FAXLINE2
Resource names. . . . . . . . . . . . . .RSRCNAME        CMN03      (see Steps 2 and 3 above)
Fax description . . . . . . . . . . . . .FAXD            FAXD02
Integrated modem device name. . . . . . .FAXIMDEV        FAXIM02
Print TSI banner. . . . . . . . . . . . .TSIBNR          *NO        (this can be *YES)
TSI position. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .TSIPOS          *INSERT
Text 'description'. . . . . . . . . . . .TEXT            *DFT

On an operating system command line, type the following to Add Fax Card:

ADDFAXCRD

Press F4 to prompt, and fill in the following parameters:

6.To run Enhanced Services on an operating system command line type the following:

CFGFAXSRV

Press F4 to prompt, and press the Enter key.

Note: If you press the Enter key again, the fax server will configure with all defaults. We recommend adding FAXC702 to the RETRYMSGID field which will always resend on BUSY signals.
7.Starting Fax Support

On an operating system command line, type the following:

STRFAXSPT ENHSRV(*YES)

Press the Enter key.
8.To determine if the fax started properly, on an operating system command Line type the following:

WRKLIND FAXLINE1

Press the Enter key. (Line name should be the value entered in from the CRTFAXD command.)

Work with Line Descriptions

Opt    Line       Type       Text
