Troubleshooting
Problem
Facsimile Support for iSeries is not supported on an IOP-less system at V5R4M0 level or below; however, it is supported at V5R4M5 with PTFs.
Resolving The Problem
In V5R3M5 and V5R4M0, there is support for an IOP-less IOA on the 520+, 550+, 570+ and 590+ systems. Facsimile Support for iSeries will not run in an IOP-less environment at these releases. With PTFs, Facsimile Support for iSeries will work in an IOP-less environment at V5R4M5 and higher releases.
Refer to Rochester Support Center knowledgebase document New, PTFs for Facsimile Support for iSeries (FAX/400): for the PTFs.
If trying to configure a fax description at V5R3M5 or V5R4M0 in an IOP-less environment and it is failing, you will see such symptoms as the fax device will not vary on and will go to a failed state. The quickest way to determine if this is the issue is to view the communications resources.
Use the WRKHDWRSC TYPE(*CMN) command to see the communication resources. Look for the modem being used. In this example, it is a 2793 modem.
If using the 2793 modem in an IOP environment, the Work with Communication Resources information will be similar to the following:
CMB01 | 2844 Operational | Combined function IOP |
LIN02 | 2793 Operational | Comm Adapter |
CMN02 | 2793 Operational | Comm Port |
CMN03 | 2793 Operational | V.24 Port |
If using the 2793 modem in an IOP-less environment, the Work with Communication Resources information will be similar to the following:
CMB01 | 2793 Operational | |
LIN02 | 2793 Operational | Comm Adapter |
CMN02 | 2793 Operational | Comm Port |
CMN03 | 2793 Operational | V.24 Port |
Note: If the modem model number is listed for the CMBxx resource and the LINxx and CMNxx resources, it is an IOP-less system. If the CMBxx resource is listed as something else, it is an IOP environment.
If running in an IOP-less environment at R535 and R540, the modem hardware would need to be moved to an available IOP slot in order for it to work with Facsimile Support for iSeries. You should contact a hardware service provider for assistance in moving the modem, if needed.
