Steps to Configuring Enhanced Services

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document contains the steps to configure Enhanced Services.

Resolving The Problem

Enhanced Services is an optional part of Facsimile Support. It was once called Fax Requester and was a separate product. In R310, FAX/400 and Fax Requester was combined into one product, Facsimile Support for iSeries.

Enhanced Services provides the following functions:

oOutbound status job
oClean-up job
oInbound Receive for auto printing and filing
oAuto Retries on particular messages
To configure Enhanced Services, a fax profile is required. In addition, you must be a Fax Administrator. If this is the first time setting this up, sign on as QSECOFR (or as a user profile that has *SECOFR for User class) and run the CRTFAXPRF command. This creates a fax profile for every user on the system. If you prefer to add one profile at a time, use the WRKFAXPRF command and F6 to Add. Running this command without a profile results in the following message: FRQ1010 - No fax profile exists for user &2.

You can take the menu options for each section under GO FAXADM options 22, 23, 24 and 26. Or you can run the CFGFAXSRV command, and press F4 to prompt and then enter on *ALL and it will display the following parameters:

Note: The parameters in bold are the most critical.

  Message ID . . . . . . . . . .   FAXC702       FAXnnnn, Value

Notes:
1.The cleanup job is optional. The default is *YES. In the following parameters, you can set the Log and fax retention days which defaults to 5, and set the start up time which is 22:00. If you do not want your faxes to be automatically deleted, set this to *NO.
2.Retry message identifiers must be added. We typically recommend FAXC708, which is a communications failure caused by line noise, and FAXC702, which is the Busy condition. You have the option to add others, if you prefer. You can also set the number of retries and the delay. Be careful when adding several messages and delays because this can affect your error handling and throughput.
