Prerequisites

Prerequisites are: IBM Installation Manager 1.8.6 through 1.8.9.6, or IBM Installation Manager 1.9.1 or later fix pack or IBM Installation Manager 1.9.2 or later fix pack; IBM® Rational ClearCase Version 10.0.0.

Installation Instructions

You must install this update by using the Updates Packages wizard in IBM® Installation Manager. For information on installing updates by using wizard mode, see the help for Installation Manager on IBM Documentation.

Refer to technote 623239 for detailed installation instructions.

If you run into issues running the Installation Manager GUI on Linux, see technote 102319 for possible solutions.

  • By default, the update is installed from the IBM® update repository on to a remote server.

  • It is also possible to download the update and install it locally.

    1. Download the repository from the Download Package table below.
    2. Extract files to a temporary directory. In the IBM® Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and add the temporary directory location to the list of repositories.
    3. Use the Update Packages wizard in the Installation Manager to complete the update.

For instructions on installing server components for automatic views, read technote 514843.

If you plan to deploy IBM® Rational ClearCase or IBM® Rational ClearQuest using the WebSphere Application Server, then read technotes 544639 and 6855865 before you install the products.

If you plan to use the ClearCase® GUIs, some additional Operating System packages might be required. See the Detailed System Requirements for more information (link provided in the Supporting Documentation section).

The ClearCase® Remote Client and CMAPI now support SP800-131 compliance. Custom configuration might be required for integrated environments, for example, with Rational Team Concert with CCRC or with CMAPI applications not using IBM® JRE. Refer to technote 240547 for more information.

For the Rational ClearTeam Explorer and ClearTeam Explorer Extension offerings, use the ccrc.zip and ccrc_extension.zip download packages below. For installation instructions, see the help for ClearCase on IBM Documentation.

For the IBM® Rational ClearCase Cadence Virtuoso Extension offerings, use the appropriate CDSVR_extension download packages below. For installation instructions, see the help for ClearCase on IBM Documentation.

Note: Descriptions of resolved defects are included in the ux_readme and windows_readme files in the Download package table. The readme files are also included in each patch bundle; therefore, you do not need to download the readme separately when you download the patch.

How critical is this fix?

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a maintenance release. This fix pack addresses vulnerabilities in Expat component, OpenSSL, and libcURL. Review the Security bulletins CVE-2022-40674,CVE-2022-43680 (Expat component), (CVE-2022-2097,CVE-2022-2068) (OpenSSL), (CVE-2022-42915,CVE-2022-42916,CVE-2022-32221,CVE-2022-35252,CVE-2022-32205,CVE-2022-32206,CVE-2022-32207) (libcURL) for more information. The release also contains fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.

Test Results

Definitions

Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in an MDV that causes a regression

Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs that did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression

Notes:
  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

Review the table in the Known Side Effects section for a list of defects that have been marked by testing as either incomplete or as a regression.

Known Side Effects

Review the following list of known issues and open defects:

Regression: For users of automatic views on Windows: before upgrading to this fix pack, see technote 6854617.

Currently, after you have implemented the IBM ClearCase - Microsoft Visual Studio 2019 integration, when you try to create a new Visual Studio 2019 project from its UI, it might fail. To work around this problem, integrate with Visual Studio 2022 instead.

In the ClearCase®-Microsoft Visual Studio integration, adding a new project to the ClearCase source control using Visual Studio 2019 and later might fail silently. For more information, see technote 6619671.

Currently, smart card authentication is not available.

When comparing directories in ClearCase®, the utfXXcleardiffmerge executable file displays a different error message for each platform. For more information, see technote 6842531.

In ClearCase®, the utfXXcleardiffmerge executable file is not producing an error on the Windows console when comparing a UTF file with more than 32,000 bytes in a line. For more information, see technote 6842529.

On ClearCase® 10.0, the SSL module of ratlperl fails to load for HP-UX. For more information, see technote 6841883.

On ClearCase® 10.0, the cleartool lsview command executed on an HP-UX client host might hang when the -properties option is used. For more information, see technote 6841881.

In ClearCase® 10.0.0.1, when you right-click a file or a directory or an activity, a new option, Review Board, is displayed that might not work as expected. Do not use this option, though there is no impact on the existing ClearCase® functionalities.

On the ClearCase Search dialog box, the search options for View private resources is not supported for the Dynamic views.

If you previously used the linux_x86_64 or linux_ppc64le platforms for VOB storage with a 9.0.1.x and later releases, read the compatibility information in technote 562843 before upgrading to this release.

ClearCase® dynamic view storage on BTRFS does not work correctly on SLES 12 SP2. Refer to technote 562519.

Before you upgrade to this release from IBM® Rational ClearCase MultiSite 8.0.0.3 or earlier (including 8.0) on servers that have feature level 6 VOB families, refer to technote 214747 for important information.

If you previously modified the ClearCase® default extended naming symbol (@@) on any Windows 64-bit system, review technote 484703. After upgrading to this release, you need to reconfigure the symbol's value.

Open defects

Helpful Hints For Obtaining Technical Assistance:

Before you contact IBM® Rational Software Support, gather the background information that you need to describe the problem. When you describe a problem to an IBM® software support specialist, be as specific as possible and include all relevant background information so that the specialist can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:

  • What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
  • Do you have logs, traces, or messages that are related to the problem?
  • Can you reproduce the problem? If so, what steps do you take to reproduce it?
  • Is there a workaround for the problem? If so, be prepared to describe the workaround.

If you have helpful information to diagnose or identify the problem on your system, you can provide this data by following the instructions to exchange information with IBM Technical Support.
