Activations are interactive experiences designed to capture the attention of our audience and invite them to explore IBM’s products and solutions. These experiences serve as an entry point to a more directed conversation, making complex ideas more accessible through palatable, fun and engaging interactions. Through activations, our goal is to create memorable and meaningful design touchpoints that effectively communicate the IBM’s point of view in an immersive way.
Think 2024 pavilion
Think 2024 featured an activation with an open, central hub on a forum floor where executive attendees experience how IBM can help them transform their business by scaling generative AI (gen AI) technology across key business domains. This multi-person experience is the connective tissue guiding them on a personalized and curated IBM journey.
Calling the Shots
Calling the Shots gamifies an instance of AI commentary using table tennis as a proxy. The experience uses a custom computer vision model to automatically referee the game and IBM watsonx® to generate AI commentary that displays fun observations about each player’s performance. Our innovative take on table tennis gives IBM employees the ability to draw parallels between examples of AI solutions within our sports partnerships with other industry applications.

Through a hybrid touchscreen and tactile experience, our watsonx® activation gives attendees the ability to build their own AI model and explore the distinctive capabilities and core values of IBM’s gen AI platform.
Technology Atlas
The Technology Atlas is IBM’s strategic technical forecast of where a core set of technologies are going over the next 10 years. A tabletop workspace that projects content to an accompanying screen helps our experts inform and explore these complex topics with attendees who are looking to better understand and rationalize key IT investments.
Client stories
The successes of our clients and partners are celebrated within this scalable, immersive showcase. Taking inspiration from record stores, stories are presented as a library of tiles attendees can pull and place to activate corresponding digital content to explore in detail.
Sustainability
A physical and digital hybrid tabletop experience lets attendees make decisions about connected assets in city environments. They must use data revealed in the city model to solve different scenarios with a focus on improving efficiency to reduce emissions. By applying insights from IBM® Envizi™ and IBM Maximo® software, users can make more informed decisions that support near-term and long-term sustainability and revenue goals.
AI automation
Using a functional visualization of a simulated IT stack, we showcase IBM Concert®, IBM Instana® and IBM Turbonomic® software in action. Rooted in the concept of observability, the gesture-based interface helps attendees make decisions in a 3D environment that simulates the impact to application health and performance.
Hybrid cloud
Using hybrid cloud design to achieve more from AI is explored through an interactive workshop experience. Industry-specific examples of hybrid cloud architectures are leveraged to visually frame conversations between IBM employees and attendees. Simplified as animated, functional diagrams, architectures can be explored at multiple technical levels with digital components representing platforms, products and ecosystem.
