IBM Services also created a future-ready technical growth platform for the bank with an Enterprise Microservice and DevSecOps platform. The inclusion of IBM Red Hat® OpenShift®  added the much-required robustness and security hardening.

Krungsri is Thailand’s 5th largest universal bank with leadership position in consumer finance & Japanese Corporate market. It has the most extensive global network with over 2,700 locations in more than 50 countries. Making life simple for customers in getting a mortgage, auto loan, life insurance or planning retirement with just a few clicks away, Krungsri wanted to provide quotes, service offerings and estimates swiftly and directly to customers in the comfort of their homes.

Transformation Story

Open Banking API platform for seamless customer experience

IBM engaged with Krungsri to build an API enterprise microservice platform along with Open API development and onboarding process. IBM created the Open Banking API platform and developed a new API developer portal to attract more partners while facilitating the onboarding process with minimum IT involvement and maximum flexibility for the business teams. With Open API, bank can connect with other MUFG partners which create a unique API ecosystem across the region.

Multicloud neutral microservice architecture and DevSecOps platform were established and Red Hat OpenShift was used as the container managed platform for the bank. Red Hat OpenShift is available on every cloud, supported by Red Hat, and runs on traditional IT systems of Krungsri. Red Hat OpenShift complemented Krungsri’s journey and became an integral part of its cloud neutral DevSecOps platform with zero downtime deployment and maintenance.

The inclusion of OpenShift added the much required robustness and security hardening. This multi-cloud neutral Microservice and DevSecOps platform enables Krungsri to hyper scale their IT environment for the future.

IBM continuously demonstrated the value of Red Hat OpenShift platform through proof of concept (POC) and progress report. A secure, reliable, scalable platform had become inevitable from a business point of view. POC demonstrated OpenShift capability, deployed two microservices with end-to-end integration to its back-end applications, and also demonstrated how OpenShift can be used as Krungsri’s modernization platform.    

IBM Services will manage the Red Hat OpenShift clusters once they are in a production-ready state.

The Open API Platform today sets the stage for creating a robust, secure and easy-to-connect system that will drive Krungsri’s partner ecosystem growth. Making life simple for customers in getting a mortgage, auto loan, life insurance or planning retirement with just a few clicks away, Krungsri and partners will provide quotes, service offerings and estimates swiftly and directly to customers in the comfort of their home. Running on Red Hat’s OpenShift platform, Krungsri’s customers can also firmly rely on the global security, data privacy and regulatory-compliant standards as well as world-class open-source technology. There is 50% improvement in end-to end product development lifecycle.

Krungsri can fast create and deliver new applications and services through the adoption of a cloud-native architecture and containerization and hence change the developer experience. Krungsri will accelerate delivery by adopting DevSecOps best practices to drive a culture of automation and transformation. Barriers that prohibit productivity and integration are removed to create new user experiences and develop new applications. OpenShift will complement the existing capability and provide cost benefits through three full capabilities: 1. Catalog of secure open-source software. 2. Platform as a Service capability with developer tools and built-in monitoring. 3. Portability to multi-cloud without any change to the application architecture.
