The first in-person Intel® Innovation event for developers is a wrap, and IBM Cloud was thrilled to connect as one big community.
Over 1,300 people were onsite, and millions joined virtually to see the latest advancements churning out of the cloud community think-tank. Check out IBM Cloud’s full recap below, along with some inside chatter about 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors.
IBM Cloud Desktop as a Service (DaaS)
With the recent increase in remote and hybrid work, DaaS continues to play a pivotal role in the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) world, providing virtualized desktops and applications entirely through remotely hosted experiences. By eliminating the need to purchase physical infrastructure and, instead, functioning through subscription and usage-based payments, businesses can drive risk down and flexibility up. IBM Cloud DaaS specialists were on hand to showcase and discuss two new DaaS solutions powered by Intel® Xeon Scalable processors on IBM Cloud:
- Dizzion Managed DaaS on IBM Cloud: A fully managed solution based on VMware Horizon from Dizzion.
- Citrix DaaS for IBM Cloud: A customer-managed solution with built-in automation from Citrix.
HPC Solutions on IBM Cloud
IBM Spectrum Scale, IBM Spectrum LSF and IBM Spectrum Symphony were proudly front and center this year after receiving Intel’s 2022 Select Solution for Simulation and Modeling accolade. High-performance computing (HPC) solutions like these deliver supercomputing-grade power on the cloud and level the operating-expense playing field for enterprises and startups alike.
HPC Solutions on IBM Cloud come out-of-the-box with compute instances powered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, workload schedulers, storage management and high-speed data transfers. Every industry — from automotive and aerospace to oil and gas and the financial sector — runs compute-intensive workloads. Spectrum solutions on IBM Cloud just make for smarter business sense, especially when it comes to optimizing workflow designs or quickly predicting data set outcomes.
WebApp via Terraform on IBM Cloud
Scaling and securing workloads are key drivers for building on and moving to cloud. Unfortunately, most new web applications are built in that order — develop first, scale second, security third. Folks, there’s a better way, and that is to secure (by default) and build on a platform that’s already designed for scale.
IBM Cloud for VMware delivers security by default; and what’s more secure than building on a platform that places workloads and virtual machines inside internal, private networks with absolutely no connection to the public internet unless explicitly defined by you, the business owner?
IBM Cloud design and engineering teams were on hand at Intel® Innovation, giving live demos and helping developers build globally available, scaled and protected VMware WebApp deployments. IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)
Your data needs to be secure and accessible — at any time, from anywhere in the world — so where and how your baseline infrastructure is hosted matters the most. IBM Cloud VPC is a new generation of IBM infrastructure, powered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and designed from the ground up for cloud-native workloads. Ultra-fast provisioning for developers, maximum protection for sensitive workloads and rarely seen cost-conscious networking options were just a few of the features that IBM experts walked attendees through at the booth this year. Attendees were also given USD 1,000 to use toward any of their new VPC resources. Check out the promotion details below:

4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors coming soon to IBM Cloud
Along the aisles of booths and inside theater crowds, the chatter steadily focused on the next standard of compute architecture to be released by Intel®. Currently in market is “Ice Lake” — Intel’s 3rd Gen Xeon® Scalable platform, built on Intel’s 10nm process node with up to 40 Sunny Cove cores. Compared to the current generation, many anticipate that the up-and-coming 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors are poised to deliver some of the highest performance increases and fastest memory in-market today. That said, IBM Cloud will be among the first cloud providers to deliver 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors across their bare metal servers, virtual servers and HPC platforms.
