APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
Application developers should be able to set the value of the Connection HTTP header using code like this: HashMap sendTransportHeaders=new HashMap(); sendTransportHeaders.put("Connection","close"); sendTransportHeaders.put("MyRequestHeader", "MyRequestHeaderValue"); ((Stub) portType)._setProperty(Constants.REQUEST_TRANSPORT_PROPERTIES, sendTransportHeaders); The Web Services engine does not properly process case-insensitive values for the Connection header when set through REQUEST_TRANSPORT_PROPERTIES. In the code example above, the MyRequestHeader would be added to the outbound HTTP, but the Connection HTTP header would get ignored. If this line were to replace the line in the example above: sendTransportHeaders.put("Connection","Close"); the Connection HTTP would be included in the outbound HTTP request and the value of the Connection header would be "Close". WebSphere Application Server should process the value of close in a case insensitive manner.
Local fix
Application developers can make the value of the Connection http header equal to "Close" and equal to "close"
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server Web Service JAX-RPC clients * * employing HTTP Connection request headers * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Setting HTTP Connection header to * * "Close" may not take effect on the Web * * Service Clients using * * REQUEST_TRANSPORT_PROPERTIES * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fixpack containing this APAR. * **************************************************************** HTTP Headers can be set on a JAX-RPC client stub with the REQUEST_TRANSPORT_PROPERTIES property and a user-defined HashMap holding the various keys and values corresponding to HTTP Header names and values. When this is done, the web services runtime may encounter a problem parsing the value specified by the user for the Connection HTTP Request header. The web services runtime is expecting a case-sensitive value for the value of Connection: ex: Connection=Close, Connection=Keep-Alive
Problem conclusion
The runtime was corrected to parse the values provided for the Connection request header in a case-insensitive manner. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.0.2.39, 6.1.0.29, and 7.0.0.7.
