Error description

Customer Implemented a class that extends
com.sun.xml.bind.marshaller.NamespacePrefixMapper.  This class
has been included in the rt.jar of the Microsoft Windows
operating system version of WebSphere Application Server V7.0
but not in the rt.jar of the Solaris operating system version.
As a consequence, code that compiles and runs under Microsoft
Windows fails under Solaris.

The situation is that customer used ...NamespacePrefixMapper in
V6.1 Feature Pack for Web Services without problem, and in V7.0
is having problems with compiling because of that class, and
that class has changed in V7.0.

An application attempting to compile a class that extends
com.sun.xml.bind.marshaller.NamespacePrefixMapper may get
compilation errors, such as the following:

   MyNamespaceMapper.java: cannot access
   com.sun.xml.internal.bind.marshaller.NamespacePrefixMapper
   class file for
   com.sun.xml.internal.bind.marshaller.NamespacePrefixMapper
   not found
   public class MyNamespaceMapper extends
NamespacePrefixMapper {
          ^
   MyNamespaceMapper.java: method does not override or
implement a method
   from a supertype
           @Override
           ^
   2 errors

Problem conclusion

The NamespacePrefixMapper class provided by WebSphere
Application Server v7.0 was extending a Java 6 internal class
with the same name. On Solaris and HP operating systesm, access
to these internal classes was blocked by the compiler (javac)
leading to compilation errors for classes which extend
NamespacePrefixMapper. The problem was resolved by changing
NamespacePrefixMapper so that it no longer extends the
internal class and adding a workaround in the IBM JAXB runtime
to adapt instances of these classes so that they can work with
the JAXB RI in Java 6.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.7.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
