Use JavaScript to enhance your QMF-based analytics and visualizations

With the REST API introduced in QMF 12, JavaScript can be used for rapid development of web-based front ends. A QMF JavaScript column allows for data manipulations that would not otherwise be practical or possible in SQL. QMF for Workstation, QMF for IBM® WebSphere®, and the QMF Z Client allow the use of JavaScript in Procedures to add logic ‘if-then’ statements, loops and more.

Use QMF Vision for self-service, intuitive dashboards to analyze data

QMF Vision is a user-friendly, self-service data preparation, data discovery and collaboration solution that provides multiple ways to present and analyze information. It allows users to incorporate a variety of data sources and generate customizable dashboards that can be easily shared with other users in the business community.

How customers use it

  • Collaborative analytics in the banking industry

    Problem

You have to analyze and solve why there has been a decline in deposits over the past few months. The data is in multiple data sources including the mainframe. And you need to collaborate with an extended team to find the problem and solution.

    Solution

Use the QMF Vision interface to create a visualization across the different data sources. Use the visualization to find the problem, and use the integration of QMF and collaborative software such as IBM Connections to solve the problem.

  • In-place analytics on LIVE VSAM data

    Problem

VSAM is used to store your business transactional data. To analyze this data for business decisions, the data is moved off IBM Z daily. Moving the data incurs mainframe costs and does not allow for timely insights or decisions.

    Solution

Do not move the VSAM data off IBM Z. Analyze it and visualize it in place with QMF modern dashboards and visualizations. Lower costs by diminishing data movement and by using the QMF data virtualization technology that exploits zIIP engines.
