Installing Early Development Testing in Eclipse

Early Development Testing is an extension offering, and its prerequisite is IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), an eclipse-based modern integrated development environment (IDE). You can install Early Development Testing into IDz through Eclipse P2. In either case, IBM Developer (IDz) V17.0.3 or later must be installed. This configuration is only supported on 64 bit Windows.

Installing through IBM Installation Manager is only available in IBM Test Accelerator for Z 2.2.0 and later

Installing Early Development Testing in Eclipse through IBM Installation Manager

Ensure that IBM Installation Manager is installed. To obtain the latest version of IBM Installation Manager, go to the AQUA downloads website.

Procedure

  1. Go to the main AQUA downloads page, locate IBM Developer for z/OS, and then click the ZIP link in the Client column.
  2. In the Offline Repository Packages dialog, find IBM Developer for z/OS V17.0.x, and then click the download icon in the IM Zip Download column.
  3. Review the license information and click I agree. The download of IDz starts.
  4. After the download finishes, obtain the edt-eclipse-win-im-v.r.m.zip file from Passport Advantage, where v.r.m refers to the version number such as 99.99.99.

  5. Decompress the edt-eclipse-win-im-v.r.m.zip file. It should contain a file called IBM_Test_Accelerator_for_Z_im-offering-v.r.m-timestamp.zip, where v.r.m refers to the version number such as 99.99.99 and timestamp refers to the time when the zip was created. Note down the location of the file.
  6. Start IBM Installation Manager.
  7. From the toolbar, select File > Preferences.
  8. In the Preferences dialog, click Add Repositories, and use the Browse button to find the IDz IM zip file downloaded in Step 4.
  9. Click OK to add the repository to the list.
  10. Click Add Repositories again, and this time, use the Browse button to find the EDT IM zip file from step 6.
  11. Click OK to add the repository to the list.
    Note: It is recommended to clear the Search repositories during the installation and updates check box to speed up the installation process.
  12. Click OK in the Preferences dialog to register your changes.
  13. Click Install on the main IBM Installation Manager panel.
  14. Select IBM Developer for z/OS and IBM Test Accelerator for Z.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Review the IBM Developer for z/OS and IBM Test Accelerator for Z licenses, and then click I accept the terms in the license agreements to proceed with the installation.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Select Create a new package group, and then update the Installation Directory as needed.
  19. Click Next.
  20. IBM Test Accelerator for Z is only supported in English, so click Next again.
  21. In the Install Packages dialog, review the IBM Developer for z/OS packages and make updates as needed.
    Note: It is strongly recommended to select the IBM Dependency Based Build Integration package, because Early Development Testing only supports local projects and does not support building with property groups.
  22. Click Next.
  23. You can now optionally define a z/OS Connection. Click Next when it finishes.
  24. Review your selections and click Install.
  25. When the installation finishes, click Finish.
  26. If you cleared the Remove the Search repositories during installation and updates check box, you might want to return to the preferences and add the check back again.
  27. Optional: If you are an IDz (not IDz EE) user, ensure that the IDz license is also installed. For more information, see Installing a permanent authorized user license.

Installing Early Development Testing in Eclipse through Eclipse P2

You can install Early Development Test into any existing local instance of IDz.

Procedure

  1. Go to the main AQUA downloads page, locate IBM Developer for z/OS, and then click the ZIP link in the Client column.
  2. In the Offline Repository Packages dialog, find IBM Developer for z/OS V17.0.x, and then click the download icon in the P2 Zip Download column.
  3. Review the license information and click I agree. The download of IDz starts.
  4. After the download finishes, decompress IDz to the desired location on disk.
  5. Obtain the edt-eclipse-win-p2-v.r.m.zip file from Passport Advantage, where v.r.m refers to the version number such as 99.99.99.

  6. Decompress the edt-eclipse-win-p2-v.r.m.zip file. It should contain a file called IBM_Test_Accelerator_for_Z_update-site-v.r.m-timestamp.zip, where v.r.m refers to the version number such as 99.99.99 and timestamp refers to the time when the zip was created. Note down the location of the file.
  7. Start IDz.
  8. After the workbench is open, click Help > Install New Software.
  9. In the Install dialog, click Add.
  10. In the Add Repository dialog, click Archive.
  11. Find the compressed file from Step 5 and click Open.
  12. In the Add Repository dialog, specify a name, and then click Add.
  13. In the Install dialog, select all the options for IBM Test Accelerator for Z and Early Development Testing. Note that even though there is a Translations option, only English is provided.
  14. Click Next.
  15. On the Install Details panel, review the information and click Next.
  16. Review the licenses and click I accept the terms of the license agreements to proceed.
  17. Click Finish.
  18. When the installation is proceeding, if you are prompted to accept unsigned content, accept the unsigned content and click Trust Selected.
  19. If you are prompted to restart IDz to apply the changes, click Restart Now.
  20. If you are an IDz (not IDz EE) user, ensure that the IDz license is also installed. For more information, see Installing a permanent authorized user license.
