SACOMBANK modernizes its core banking system, driving digital transformation through Red Hat OpenShift and IBM Power

By deploying its core banking system on Red Hat OpenShift and IBM Power, SACOMBANK is building a modern technology platform to enhance operational capabilities and advance its digital transformation strategy.

The image shows the exterior of a grand Sacombank building with ornate architectural details. Large golden SACOMBANK letters are prominently displayed in front of the entrance. A sculptural relief and decorative columns add to the classical style of the facade. Lush greenery and plants line the foreground, enhancing the prestigious appearance of the property.
A new technology platform for long-term growth

As one of Vietnam’s leading commercial banks, SACOMBANK is progressively realizing its digital transformation strategy to enhance competitiveness, accelerate product innovation and deliver better customer experiences.

As demand for digital financial services and faster time-to-market increased, SACOMBANK launched a strategy to upgrade its core banking system, aiming to build a technology platform with flexible scalability, stability and the ability to support the Bank’s long-term growth objectives.

To realize this goal, SACOMBANK selected Temenos as the platform for its next-generation core banking and built a cloud-native architecture on Red Hat OpenShift running on IBM Power. The solution enhances scalability and security and creates a highly available technology platform.

200% Application performance improvement 3x Faster system deployment 50% Fewer servers required
The modern platform provides the scalability, reliability and performance needed to support our core banking transformation. This is an important factor helping SACOMBANK accelerate product innovation, optimize performance and be ready to meet future development requirements.

Modernizing core banking on IBM Power

As part of its modernization journey, SACOMBANK implemented Temenos core banking applications as containerized workloads on Red Hat® OpenShift® running on IBM® Power®.

Temenos helps the Bank accelerate product development and improve the quality of customer services. Red Hat OpenShift provides a consistent cloud-native platform for deploying and managing applications, while IBM Power ensures the performance, scalability and high availability required for mission-critical banking systems.

This is considered a notable Temenos core banking deployment in a real-world technology environment. In addition to improving operational efficiency, the new platform enables SACOMBANK to shorten application deployment time, increase its capacity for innovation and develop digital banking services.

The environment also leverages IBM FlashSystem® storage to provide high-performance, low-latency access to banking data and support demanding transaction workloads.

The IBM and Temenos relationship spans nearly 30 years and remains an important technology partnership for both organizations. By modernizing its Temenos core banking environment on IBM Power and Red Hat OpenShift, Sacombank has established a scalable and flexible technology foundation. This project highlights how Temenos and IBM work together to help banks modernize critical banking systems with confidence.

Improving operational efficiency and creating a foundation for growth

SACOMBANK successfully deployed its production OpenShift environment and achieved a stable go-live for a major core banking modernization initiative. The transformation delivered significant business benefits, including a 200% improvement in application performance, 3x faster deployment cycles and a 50% reduction in server footprint, reducing infrastructure requirements from eight servers to four. Provisioning times were reduced from approximately two days to six to eight hours, enabling faster delivery of new services and greater operational agility and improved responsiveness to business needs.

Through Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Power, SACOMBANK is also progressively standardizing consistent system administration, simplifying application deployment while ensuring enterprise-grade performance, scalability and availability for core banking systems.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the new platform also enables SACOMBANK’s IT team to be more proactive in deploying, managing and operating the system, gradually strengthening its technology ownership capabilities while reducing reliance on traditional deployment processes.

With a modern core banking platform in place, SACOMBANK is well positioned to advance real-time banking services, accelerate data driven innovation and expand its next-generation digital banking capabilities. The success of this project highlights the value of the collaboration between SACOMBANK, Temenos, IBM and Red Hat in modernizing technology platform, strengthening  SACOMBANK’s position as one of the leading digital banking innovators in Vietnam and across ASEAN.
