Following the failure and restart of the Adjunct Region
(CRA), messages may no longer be processed by WebSphere
Application Server messaging engine on z/OS. The problem occurs
because the Pause Element Token (PET) has been zeroed out by
the recovery manager prior to notifying the Server Regions
(SRs) that the CRA has failed. The zeroing out of the token
deletes a valid token created by the restarted CRA that is
needed by the SRs to properly notify the CRA that the SR has
purged the internal work queues as part of recovery.

Occurrence of the error can be confirmed by a trace of SR. A
WebSphere Environment variable ras_trace_specific with a
value of 0301F000 will produce the trace for the module in
which the error occurs. If necessary, the trace may be set
for the single applicable trace point by setting the variable
ras_trace_specific to a value of 0301F00D.

The trace entry should contain the description "bbocjfpu
bbocfjpp call" and should have a PET value that is binary
zeroes (null) similar to the edited trace entry shown here:

Problem conclusion

The recovery manager has been changed to remove the zeroing of
the Pause Element Token (PET). The PET is now available to the
Server Region (SR) to notify the restarted Adjunct Region (CRA)
that internal work queues have been purged has part of recovery.

APAR PM02389 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.9 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
