Option to make a single upper pool virtualize multiple lower pools
|
▪Prior capability:
Originally the system's upper and lower pools had to be in a one-to-one relationship. Relating one upper pool to multiple lower pools was not allowed.
▪Starting in 2021:
Storage Modeller supports a one-to-many relationship between one upper pool and multiple lower pools.
Virtualization of multiple lower pools is possible when you use an existing upper pool that has any of these traits:
– Is empty
– Has its own internal arrays
– Already virtualizes other lower pools

Clarification regarding invalid types of virtualizations
|
When you establish a virtualization, you have the option to select an existing upper-layer system or pool. The list does not show the following types of systems and pools:
▪No V5000 or V5000E systems.
▪No pools that are already virtualized. In other words, a pool can be virtualized and then can belong only to one VPool.
▪No pools that operate in a system that acts as upper layer. In other words, you cannot virtualize a virtualizer.
▪No remote systems. The upper and the lower systems of your virtualization must be located at the same site.
Use of any of the preceding elements in a virtualization would lead to invalid configurations.
