Currently the Adapters tab has a single sub-tab, Host Adapter Configuration. There, you click Add Host Adapters to configure the following options (not all options are available in all system types):
▪Adapter type: Choose one of these adapter types that are available in the DS8000 family. You can add both types in your system by adding a host adapter of the other type to your system:
 – zHyperLink: This adapter is preconfigured. So no Usage settings are available. For zHyperLink, you can set Number of Adapters only.
 – 4-port FCP/FICON, with the following configuration options:
 • 16 Gb or 32 Gb
 • SW (shortwave) or LW (longwave)
 • Usage for each port. Figure 201 displays all options:
- Host I/O (None, FCP, or FICON)
- Replication (None, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, or z/OS Global Mirror)
- Replication Target (the First or Second target for replication).
Figure 201 shows how Storage Modeller filters your Usage options and validates your selections. Developers extend and improve this filtering over time.

Note: In general, it is not recommended to share the same port for host and replication traffic. Storage Modeller allows such sharing, but displays a warning message:
Warning: One or more ports are shared for Host I/O and Replication usage, which goes against best-practice. Ensure that shared port usage is required for this design.
This warning is displayed in the browser for Ports 1 and 3 in Figure 201. A yellow warning icon is also displayed.
The following table references Figure 201 to show you all Usage configuration options for a multi-port adapter (such as, the 32 Gb 4-port FCP/FICON Adapter).
▪Number of Adapters: To keep the system balanced, Storage Modeller adds all adapters in pairs. You can specify only an even number of adapters.
Our simple example system has 2 adapters dedicated to Host/IO communications only (no Replication). The correct choice for all 4 adapter ports in our example system is: Protocol: FICON, Host I/O: IBM Z, and Replication: None.
When you click Submit, the adapters are added to your model.
In our example, we have 2 adapters with a total of 8 ports configured for FICON communications for Host I/O. (We do not model Replication in this example.)
Storage Modeller summarizes our settings in a chart on the Adapters tab. This summary row is expandable (click the caret (^) icon). The adapter row features an action icon (the vertical ellipsis) on the right that you use to Edit or Delete a host adapter.
