Each patch contains the cumulative fixes of its predecessor. All other patches referenced in this document are obsolete.

Prerequisites


Prerequisites are: Installation Manager 1.8.2, or later versions of 1.8.x; IBM® Rational ClearCase Version 9.0.2 or 9.0.2.1 or 9.0.2.2 or 9.0.2.3.

Installation Instructions

Important Information for users of the silent installation option:
When you use the silent installation option on Linux platforms and specify that the MVFS should be rebuilt, a value for the key "user.CC_MVFSModuleKernelPath" is required in the response file. See the sample response file in technote 116161.

You must install this update by using the Updates Packages wizard in IBM® Installation Manager. For information on installing updates, see the topic "Updating packages by using wizard mode" in the help for Installation Manager on IBM® Documentation at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/installation-manager/1.8.5?topic=mode-updating-packages-by-using-wizard.

If you plan to use Installation Manager on Solaris, Linux, or AIX in GUI mode, refer to technote 102319 for more information.

  • By default, the update is installed from the IBM® update repository on to a remote server.

  • It is also possible to download the update and install it locally.
     
    1. Download the repository from the Download Package table below.
    2. Extract files to a temporary directory. In the IBM® Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and add the temporary directory location to the list of repositories.
    3. Use the Update Packages wizard in the Installation Manager to complete the update.

If you plan to deploy IBM® Rational ClearCase or IBM® Rational ClearQuest using the WebSphere Application Server, then read technotes 544639 and 462303 before you install the products.

If you plan to use the ClearCase® GUIs, some additional Operating System packages might be required. See the Detailed System Requirements for more information (link provided in the Supporting Documentation section).

The ClearCase® Remote Client and CMAPI now support SP800-131 compliance. Custom configuration might be required for integrated environments, for example, with Rational Team Concert with CCRC or with CMAPI applications not using IBM® JRE. Refer to technote 240547 for more information.

For the Rational ClearTeam Explorer and ClearTeam Explorer Extension offerings, use the ccrc.zip and ccrc_extension.zip download packages below. For installation instructions, see the help for ClearCase on IBM Documentation.

For the IBM® Rational ClearCase Cadence Virtuoso Extension offerings, use the appropriate CDSVR_extension download packages below. For installation instructions, see the help for ClearCase on IBM Documentation.

Note: Descriptions of resolved defects are included in the ux_readme and windows_readme files in the Download package table. The readme files are also included in each patch bundle; therefore, you do not need to download the readme separately when you download the patch.

How critical is this fix?

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a maintenance release. This fixpack addresses vulnerabilities in OpenSSL and IBM® Java runtime. Review the Security bulletins CVE-2020-1971,CVE-2021-23839,CVE-2021-23840,CVE-2021-23841,CVE-2021-23839,CVE-2021-23840,CVE-2021-23841 (OpenSSL) and CVE-2020-27221,CVE-2020-14782,CVE-2020-2773,CVE-2020-14781 (Java runtime) for more information. The release also contains fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.

The IBM Rational ClearQuest V9.0.1.x (including 9.0.1) versions have an effective end-of-support date of April 30, 2021. The 9.0.1.12 fix pack represents the final set of fixes delivered to the V9.0.1.x (including 9.0.1) versions for ClearQuest. Customers can remain on ClearCase 9.0.1.x unless they need to run ClearCase and ClearQuest on the same machine and need to upgrade ClearQuest to 9.0.2.x.

Definitions

Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in an MDV that causes a regression

Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs that did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression


Notes:
  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

Review the following list of known issues and open defects:

There are no known regressions to report.

In the ClearCase Search dialog box, the search options for View private resources is not supported for the Dynamic views.

In a snapshot view on a Linux machine, if you use the ct update -g command with the environment variable CCASE_USE_GUI set to CTE, then the Update View GUI may take a long time to open or it may open with a white screen overlapping on the GUI. This issue is applicable to the RHEL 7.x and later, and SLES 12.2 platforms.

Alternatively, you can open the Update View GUI through the ClearTeam Explorer (CTE) Standalone RCP or Native UI using the Command line.

If you previously used the linux_x86_64 or linux_ppc64le platforms for VOB storage with a 9.0.1.x and later releases, read the compatibility information in technote 562843 before upgrading to this release.

HP and AIX systems can be upgraded directly to this release only from ClearCase® 8.0.1.x installations. To upgrade from any earlier releases on these systems, ClearCase® must be uninstalled first and then ClearCase® 9.0.1.x can be installed. This process is due to a limitation of Installation Manager. Refer to technote 231983.

There is no ClearTeam Explorer (ctexplorer) available for HP. Refer to technote 544341.

On Solaris platforms, CCRC cannot be installed separately from ClearCase® by using the ccrc.zip download. CCRC/ClearTeam Explorer must be installed by installing ClearCase®. Refer to technote 544061.

ClearCase® dynamic view storage on BTRFS does not work correctly on SLES 12 SP2. Refer to technote 562519.

Before you upgrade servers that deploy web components, read technote 464949. Specifically, refer to the section labeled "Avoiding Problems".

Before you upgrade to this release from IBM® Rational ClearCase MultiSite 8.0.0.3 or earlier (including 8.0) on servers that have feature level 6 VOB families, refer to technote 214747 for important information.

If you previously modified the ClearCase® default extended naming symbol (@@) on any Windows 64-bit system, review technote 484703. After upgrading to this release, you need to reconfigure the symbol's value.
