V11.0.0.5

Installation Manager requirements across platforms
(effective from ClearCase 11.0.0.3)

  • For Windows (win_x86_64) and Linux (linux_x86_64), Installation Manager version 1.10 is required.
  • For AIX, Linux (linux_ppc64le and linux_s390x), either Installation Manager version 1.10 or version 1.9 can be used.
  • For HP-UX and Solaris, Installation Manager version 1.9 is required, as version 1.10 is not supported on these platforms.
  • For a SPARC Solaris 8 branded zone, Installation Manager 1.7.2 is the only version supported on Solaris 8.

Installation

Installing IBM Installation Manager versions from 1.10.0.0 through 1.10.1.1 using GUI mode on RHEL 10 or later fails with gdk-pixbuf errors. To resolve this issue, install the gdk-pixbuf2-modules-extra package as described in the technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7235834.

In Installation Manager version 1.10.1.2 and later on RHEL 10, gdk-pixbuf errors might appear during installation, but the installation completes successfully. You can eliminate these errors by installing the gdk-pixbuf2-modules-extra package as described in technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7235834.

You can install Installation Manager using Console mode without the gdk-pixbuf2-modules-extra package. However, when running Installation Manager in GUI mode, you will encounter the same gdk-pixbuf problem as mentioned in the preceding paragraph.

Integrating ClearCase with DevInt API

The Developer Integration API (DevInt API) simplifies integration between IBM DevOps Code ClearCase and IDEs, supporting operations like check-in and check-out. It works with both Unified Change Management (UCM) and base ClearCase across all view types, including dynamic, snapshot, automatic, and web views. For more information, see the Integrating ClearCase with developer tools using DevInt API topic in the IBM Documentation.

Integrating ClearCase with DevInt CLI

The IDE integration CLI simplifies and standardizes ClearCase operations across dynamic, snapshot, automatic, and web views. It provides a unified CLI solution for seamless ClearCase integration in development workflows, minimizing manual steps and ensuring consistency across all view types. The CLI returns results in JSON format. For more information, see the Integrating ClearCase with developer tools using DevInt CLI topic in the IBM Documentation.

Update on TLS cipher suite for new ClearCase WebSphere profiles for the WAN servers
(effective from ClearCase 11.0.0.4)

The TLS cipher suite configuration for WebSphere profiles created during the installation process has been enhanced. When a new profile is created, the ciphers are now restricted to a predefined list of approved and supported ciphers. This update improves security consistency by removing ciphers that are no longer considered secure. See TLS ciphers.

Default TLS ciphers update for ClearCase clients and servers

ClearCase servers and clients now use a more secure set of default TLS ciphers to enhance security. If this change causes any issues, you can override the default ciphers by creating a configuration file named tls_custom_ciphers.conf and specifying your preferred ciphers. For more information, see TLS ciphers topic in the IBM Documentation.

Default TLS ciphers update for Base ClearCase/ClearQuest Perl integration

The base ClearCase/ClearQuest Perl integration now enforces a more secure set of default TLS ciphers for enhanced security. If this change causes any issues, you can override the default set of ciphers by setting new parameters in the config.pl file. For more information, see the Summary of configuration parameters topic in the IBM Documentation.

TLS ciphers updates to the WAN server’s WebSphere profile

Cipher configuration changes introduced into the WebSphere profile for the WAN servers with ClearCase 11.0.0.4 lead to HTTPS communication failures when contacting the WAS server using https:// URLs. The communication failure occurs after a fresh installation and also after an update to 11.0.0.4.

This issue has been resolved in 11.0.0.5. The update from 11.0.0.4 to 11.0.0.5 will correct the incorrect cipher configuration introduced in 11.0.0.4 For more information, see technote 7239600.

ALBD service on Windows

You can now install ClearCase even if you do not know the credentials for the ALBD service. During the installation process, you can choose to configure the ALBD service credentials at a later time. The ALBD service will be set to run as a local system account with the Startup Type set to Manual.

Before using ClearCase features such as dynamic views and snapshot views, you must configure the ALBD service credentials. However, you can use web views and automatic views without configuring the service. Once configured, the ALBD service should run as a domain user who is a member of the ClearCase administrators group, and the startup type must be changed to Automatic. All features of ClearCase will be available once the service is started.

Note: The Windows domain and the ClearCase administrators group are still required to proceed with the installation.

V11.0.0.3

Installation

  • For Windows (win_x86_64) and Linux (linux_x86_64), Installation Manager version 1.10 is required.
  • For AIX, Linux (linux_ppc64le and linux_s390x), either Installation Manager version 1.10 or version 1.9 can be used.
  • For HP-UX and Solaris, Installation Manager version 1.9 is required, as version 1.10 is not supported on these platforms.

Notes:

  • For a SPARC Solaris 8 branded zone, Installation Manager 1.7.2 is the only version supported on Solaris 8.
  • The documentation incorrectly states that Installation Manager 1.10 is compatible with HP-UX and Solaris and should be disregarded.

CMI enhancements

We have introduced a new Change Management Provider for the PLAN REST API within the Change Management Integration (CMI). This allows you to use CMI between ClearCase and Plan.

Authentication enhancement: The cmiregister utility is updated to support Plan credentials. You need to provide a username and a Personal Access Token (PAT), which will be stored in the CMI credentials cache in the home directory of the user.

Note: Plan REST APIs require PATs as credentials and do not accept username and password pairs.

GUI enhancements:

  • A new checkbox labeled as Optimize for CMI is added to the CTE check-in dialog. When checking in multiple elements in base ClearCase, either in a dynamic view or a snapshot view, you can now select a task once, and it will automatically apply to all remaining checkouts that require a task. This enhancement saves time by reducing the frequency of the task selection dialog.
  • Additionally, the default behavior for CMI is modified to prompt users for credentials when using the ClearCase native UIs (such as xclearcase and clearexplorer) on a CMI-enabled branch type or stream and have not already run cmiregister or have invalid cached credentials.
  • A new configuration option allowMultiTasks is added to enable administrators to restrict task selection to a single task per element version (base-ClearCase) or activity (UCM). The default value of this option is set to true.

For more information, see technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/289053 and IBM Documentation.

Security

We have updated the certificate truststore based on the certificates trusted by Adoptium JDK 17.0.5. If you customize your truststores in previous releases, take the new truststores from this release and reintegrate in your local changes. For information about upgrading to a new release when configuring SSL certificates, see the section Upgrading to a new release in technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/541765. Depending on your operating system, these are the updated truststore file paths. You can compare the updated templates to your versions in the corresponding path names without the .template suffix.

Linux or UNIX: /var/adm/clearcase/config/cacert.pem.template

Windows: C:\Program Files\DevOps\Code\ClearCase\config\ccrc\ccrc_ucmcq_key.*.template

C:\Program Files\DevOps\Code\ClearCase\var\config\ TrustedCertificateAuthorities.*.template

Smart Card support

In DevOps Code ClearCase 11.0.0.3, Smart Card authentication is now supported for Web and Automatic view. For more information, see technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/544879.

Changes to commands

  • -op opkind: A new flag -op opkind is added in the lshistory command. It is a generic option, which works for reformatvob and other options such as - checkout, checkin, mkelem, mkbranch, and so on. For more information, see the lshistory man page.
  • rmstream: rcleartool now supports the rmstream sub-command, enabling stream deletion.
  • cleartool desc: Modified the output of the cleartool describe command for symbolic links to allow the command cleartool desc dbid: to return the full source path instead of just the DB ID (database ID).
  • getlog command: Updated the cleartool getlog command to support JSON output. Additionally, new flags such as -skip_header, -print_host, and -print_ok are added for improved printing output. For more information, see the getlog man page.
  • -status_only: A new flag, -status_only, is added to the rcleartool login sub-command to return a successful exit status if the user is already logged in. For more information, see the login man page.

ALBD service

The panel for entering ClearCase Location Broker service (ALBD) credentials during an update or modification or rollback of the Installation Manager operation has been simplified to require only the password of the configured domain account. The Location Broker (ALBD) service credentials panel will be displayed during the following conditions:

Update:

  • The ALBD service is already installed and configured with a domain account.
  • The selected features still depend on the ALBD service, even if they have not changed.

Modify:

  • The ALBD service is already installed and configured with a domain account.
  • The selected features have changed, but they still depend on the ALBD service.

Rollback:

The version being rolled back previously had the ALBD service installed and configured with a domain account.

CtCmd-1.18 Perl extension

Modified CtCmd-1.18 Perl extension to support Windows for Microsoft Visual Studio and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) compilers.

MVFS unloading

On Windows, you can now unload an MVFS using the Control Panel. A new dialog box is added to alert the user to finish all processes; otherwise, the MVFS will not be unloaded.

V11.0.0.1

Performance

Enhancement to the logic involving locks on global types improves the check-in performance of files and directories. This reduces contention when multiple check-in operations are occurring throughout the system.

ALBD service

When installing IBM DevOps Code ClearCase on Windows, you now have the option to run the ALBD service using the local system account instead of using a domain user whose password needs to be maintained over time.

A system where the ALBD service is running as the local system account will not be able to host local views and VOBs. However, the system will still be able to access views and VOBs hosted on remote systems.

The Local System Account option is only available when Local Views and VOBs and all the Server Components features are not selected. To switch between the Local System account and a domain user account, you must uninstall and then reinstall ClearCase. For more information, see technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7184678.

Cleartool catcr JSON feature

You can now print the data in the JSON format using the cleartool catcr -sfmt json command. To obtain compact, non-formatted, and single-line output, use the jsonc[ompact] option. When using the –ofile option along with the -sfmt json/jsonc[ompact] option, the data will be printed into the specified file.

Eclipse 4.33

The ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse IDE and the ClearTeam Explorer Extension now support Eclipse 4.30.

TLS v1.3 support for web view

For web views, CTE, rcleartool, and CM API now support Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.3 connections to the CCRC WAN server when the WAN server runs in a WAS or Tomcat server that enables TLS v1.3. In the default configuration, CTE or rcleartool or CM API selects the highest supported protocol between TLS v1.2 and TLS v1.3. If required, the configuration can be adjusted to force TLS v1.3 or TLS v1.2 specifically. For more information, see technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/240547.

The automatic view does not support TLS v1.3.
