APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When attempting to run the ws_ant.bat command from the WAS_HOME\bin directory on Microsoft Windows, the command fails. It produces an error similar to the following: <partial_path>\setupCmdLine.bat was unexpected at this time The <partial_path> represented above is a portion of the directory in which the WebSphere Application Server V7.0 product is installed. When this error occurs, the ws_ant.bat command immediately exits and does not perform any tasks. This occurs when the product is installed in a path containing parenthesis characters, such as the "Program Files (x86)" directory. This directory is part of the default product installation path for the 32-bit edition of the product when it is installed on a 64-bit edition of Microsoft Windows.
Local fix
The problem can be addressed by manually editing the ws_ant.bat command in the WAS_HOME\bin directory. (WAS_HOME represents the main product installation directory.) It is necessary to edit (approximately) line 88 of the file. The line begins with the text %JAVA_EXE% and ends with the text -wasUserScript %WAS_USER_SCRIPT% . The problem is resolved by putting double-quote characters around the %WAS_USER_SCRIPT% text at the end of that line. Once this is done, the end of the line should look like this: -wasUserScript "%WAS_USER_SCRIPT%" With this change, the ws_ant.bat script will operate normally. An alternative solution is to avoid installing the product into paths which contain parenthesis characters. This problem does not occur if the product is not installed into a directory such as "Program Files (x86)".
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * * V7.0 on Microsoft Windows operating systems * * who wish to install the application server * * at a path containing "(", ")" (parenthesis * * characters). * * * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Ws_ant.bat invocation fails * * immediately with an error message * * like: * * "\profiles\...\setupCmdLine.bat was * * unexpected at this time." * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** An instance of the WAS_USER_SCRIPT variable is unquoted in the ws_ant.bat script. This causes a failure since "(" character is interpreted by the command processor as a special character.
Problem conclusion
A post installation configuration action is provided to properly quote the variable in the ws-ant.bat script. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.11 Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
Temporary fix
Edit the ws_ant.bat script. Locate the line beginning with "%JAVA_EXE%.." and ending with an unquoted %WAS_USER_SCRIPT% (approximately line 87). Place double quotes around %WAS_USER_SCRIPT%.
