Many countries are establishing regulations aimed at proper collection and environmentally sound processing of WEEE. These typically impose obligations for the collection; treatment; disposal and financing of WEEE - from users in households (or in some countries defined as consumer type products), likely to end into municipal waste streams - and from other than household users such as commercial or professional customers.
In conjunction with local legislation, IBM ensures the collection and treatment of products it has put on the market of Mexico recognizable by the following waste bin logo placed directly on the equipment. IBM offers customers two take-back platforms to collect end-of-life IBM equipment as described below.

Recovery and Recycling of Household and Professional WEEE
IBM de México Comercialización y Servicios, S. de R.L. de C.V., has a service agreement with Geodis Global Solutions Mexico, S.A. de C.V., and BT Recycling Solutions, S. de R.L. de C.V., for compliance with country requirements for the environmentally responsible collection, recycling, and disposal of WEEE. In accordance with the Management Plan approved by the Mexican environmental authority.
Recovery and Potential Refurbishment and Reuse of Professional EEE (Asset Recovery Services)
Since 1999, IBM has put in place a program to treat IT Hardware optimizing reuse, recycling and other form of valorization in many countries. The purpose of the ARS program is to prolong the useful life of these products until the technology becomes obsolete.

Data Privacy and Deletion of Data
Customer is solely responsible for complying with the legal obligations of all applicable data protection legislation, in particular with the legality of transmission of data to IBM and its suppliers and the legal requirements for processing of data.
Prior to hand-over of equipment to IBM or our designated WEEE supplier, the customer must delete all data (including all personal data, encrypted data, passwords, and software) contained in/on such equipment including hard files, diskettes, storage devices, memory chips and the like.
IBM and its service providers will not accept any responsibility or obligation of confidentiality for the security of any data.
IBM will not, however, check the contents or check for the presence of such data prior to the recycling/disposal process, during which IBM and its respective WEEE suppliers are authorized to wipe, delete or otherwise destroy any data that may still be contained in returned WEEE.
Customer will own and remain responsible for the data at all times and IBM or its service providers will not accept any liability resulting from the contents of any data contained in/on the WEEE handed over to our designated WEEE collectors or processors.
