Getting started for administrators

Administrators of IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration can get started quickly by creating environments, adding capabilities to environments, and managing user access.

Before you begin

You must have a subscription to webMethods Hybrid Integration and a welcome email for this subscription. Depending on your role, your welcome email contains a link to the IBM SaaS Console where you can manage your account and subscription. If you have access to an environment, the email contains a link to the webMethods Hybrid Integration environment. See Creating the first instance in the IBM SaaS Console for instructions on creating the first service instance (environment) in the IBM SaaS Console.

About this task

The type of administrator actions that you can take depends on which admin role you have. The following table summarizes which key actions can be taken by which admin role.

Procedure

  1. Create the initial environment in the IBM SaaS Console.
    The first service instance (environment) must be created in the IBM SaaS Console. After the first environment is created, all environments can be managed in the webMethods Hybrid Integration UI on the Environment management page.
    Note: The IBM SaaS Console refers to environments as service instances.
  2. Complete the guided setup for administrators wizard

    The wizard runs the first time that you access an environment, and guides you through adding capabilities to your environment and inviting team members. The configuration setup runs in the background, and you then receive a setup summary email that provides an overview of the configuration in your environment.

    You can skip any of the steps and complete the setup later by clicking Complete setup from the Key tasks section on the home page, or by following the instructions in Steps 4 and 5.

  3. Add and manage your environments.

    For each webMethods Hybrid Integration subscription, you can provision as many environments as you need in your organization. When you create an environment, you select a stage for that instance of Development, Test, or Production.

    Add and manage your environments on the Environment management page in the webMethods Hybrid Integration UI.

    Note: Trial users can have only one environment.
  4. Add capabilities to your environments.

    Within each environment, add the capabilities that are required for your users.

    Add capabilities by clicking Manage capabilities on the webMethods Hybrid Integration home page, and then clicking Add on the required capabilities from the Capabilities tab on the environment details page. For more information about the capabilities, see IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration overview.

    Attention: When you no longer need a capability, you can remove it from the environment, but all data that is associated with that capability is permanently deleted.
  5. Add users to your environments and capabilities.
    Add users, and assign roles to define their user access to the different environments and capabilities. You can select multiple users to assign roles as a group, and create user groups to add users to.

    Click Invite users from the Key tasks section on the home page, or access the IBM SaaS Console from your welcome email for complete user management functionality.

  6. Set up connections to remote integration runtimes.

    Register connections to any remote integration runtimes that you have in your organization so that these runtimes can be monitored from within the webMethods Hybrid Integration integration runtime management capability.

  7. Set up connections to remote API runtimes.

    Register connections to any remote API runtimes that you have in your organization so that these runtimes can be monitored from within the webMethods Hybrid Integration federated API management capability.

  8. Allow outbound IP addresses

    Connect to internal servers by allowing the appropriate static IP addresses in your firewall settings.

  9. Integrate webMethods B2B Integration with IBM Sterling B2B Integration Value-Added Network

    Integrating with IBM Sterling B2B Integration Value-Added Network facilitates a secure and reliable communication layer between webMethods B2B Integration and your trading partners.

  10. Analyze product usage

    Review the transaction usage on the Usage analytics page in the webMethods Hybrid Integration UI, and convert the transactions into resource units (RU).
