3:00 – 5:00pm | Chopin | IBM Business Analytics Design Jam and Breakouts
Lisa Chen, Aparna Satoor, Cate Wilcox

In a memo dated December 20, 1966, T.J. Watson Jr. famously stated, “Good design is good business.” 53 years later, design continues to play a valuable role in the development of our products at IBM Business Analytics. It all begins with a focus on the user and how we can design and deliver more useful, usable, and essential solutions. Come meet the design team behind Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics to discover how we are continuously improving the user experience for IBM Business Analytics. Preview designs from the cutting room floor and share your thoughts on where we should explore next.

Roundtable sessions include:
– Everything you need to know about migrating to IBM Planning Analytics
– IBM Planning Analytics change management with Git
– IBM Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel for the Experienced IBM TM1 Perspectives User
– Data Cleansing best practices in Cognos
– Augmented Analytics in Cognos
– BA Best practices workshop
– AI-driven forecasting in Planning Analytics
– IBM Cognos Analytics administration, configuration and tuning best practices
– Journey to Cognos Analytics on Cloud
– Easier and faster Reporting on Cognos Analytics
– CA/PA Dashboarding integration

3:00 – 5:00pm | Flagler | Design your end-to-end AI application lifecycle
Carlo Appugliese, IBM Data Science Elite
Geraud Dubois, Lead Offering Manager Watson Studio & Machine Learning, IBM Cloud and Cognitive Software
Dillon Eversman, UX Researcher, IBM
Alex Morris, UX Researcher, IBM

While there are a lot of best practices and guidance around how to design, build and train cutting edge ML models, often times projects fail because of poor operationalization. Beyond models, it is important to have a discipline around deploying, measuring and improving models to hit business ROI and govern them as per enterprise risk guardrails. In this first-of-a-kind session, join IBM data scientists, designers, product managers and senior engineers to brainstorm and design an end-end lifecycle for operating your AI applications. In this session, you will be guided through IBM’s Enterprise Design Thinking process to identify user personas, jobs-to-be-done and ultimately an architecture to successfully deploy and operate AI applications. At the end of the session, you would have identified any missing actions, tools or metrics to find the ROI you expect from your AI applications.

3:30 – 4:15pm | Merrick I | Deep Learning: Frameworks and Applications
Jerome Nilmeier PhD, Data Scientist and Developer Advocate, IBM

We will discuss the state of the art of Deep Learning. A brief discussion of the theory of neural networks will be followed by a discussion of one of the most popular deep learning frameworks in use today, which is TensorFlow. TensorFlow has emerged as one of the most popular deep learning frameworks in use today. It has by far more users and contributors than any other project, and appears to be continuing on its upward trajectory with the release of the TensorFlow 2.0 API. There are many new features of the TensorFlow 2.0 API to look through, and we will discuss many of them, including eager execution, notebook accessible tensorboards, and tighter integration with Keras. In addition, we will show how edge calculations can be accelerated with tensorflow.js and tensorflowlite which runs completely in the browser and provides much faster model serving. TensorFlow is well on the way to becoming the standard for all things deep learning…both on large and small devices.

4:15 – 500pm | Merrick I | Getting started with Scala and Apache Spark
Jerome Nilmeier PhD, Data Scientist and Developer Advocate, IBM

Join our hands-on workshop to learn how to get started with Scala and Apache Spark. After this training you will be able to write and run a sample Scala application using Apache Spark.

Attendees will learn:
– Fundamentals of Scala
– Why Scala is best for leveraging Apache Spark (we will also review other languages: Python, R)
– Fundamentals of Apache Spark
– Coding examples from all of the main libraries of Apache Spark (SparkSQL, MLlib, GraphX, Spark Streaming, and SparkR)
– Overview of open source projects that run on the Spark framework (SystemML, R4ML)
