With this new tool, you can set up a Satellite environment in just two to three hours and then take it for a test drive.

There are many reasons to rely on IBM Cloud Satellite™. It helps you deploy and run applications consistently across all on-premises, edge computing and public cloud environments from any cloud vendor. It standardizes a core set of Kubernetes, data, AI and security services to be centrally managed as a service by IBM Cloud®, with full visibility across all environments and through a single pane of glass. It even extends IBM Cloud services to workloads where they reside, enabling you to use them consistently and on-demand for development, deployment and scaling their applications.

IBM Cloud Satellite is now easier and faster to set up, in addition to bringing you all of these powerful flexibilities. Since we released IBM Cloud Satellite in March 2021, the IBM Garage for Cloud professional services team has helped many clients adopt Cloud Satellite across their enterprise. Use cases include the following:

  • Working with clients to address their resiliency concerns, where Cloud Satellite is used to set up Red Hat OpenShift in the client’s datacenter to be consistent with production environments, thereby removing the manual effort and risks usually associated with Disaster Recovery.
  • The Garage for Cloud has also helped clients leverage Satellite so that IBM can manage logging and monitoring capabilities.
  • For financial institutions who are regulated, we have helped them use Satellite to address data residency and data sensitivity concerns related to their security and compliance obligations.

What is the TrySat automation tool?

Based on our many client engagements, IBM Garage for Cloud has worked across IBM teams to create the TrySat automation tool to make it easy for you to set up a Satellite environment in just two to three hours and then take it for a test drive. TrySat is a white-box automation tool that enables you to set up an IBM Cloud Satellite location on an IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud infrastructure with just a click or two.

TrySat most often requires just five configuration parameters, and it easily sets up resources, creates a Satellite location, provisions the Red Hat® OpenShift® Kubernetes Service and configures the Satellite link. An upcoming version of TrySat will enable automated deployments to Azure and Google Cloud Platform, together with sample business scenarios to demonstrate its full value.

TrySat is easy to use and modify and can be used to explore the Satellite installation process or to quickly provision environments where you need them.
