This week, IBM Event Streams will be releasing a new plan for our managed cloud service built on top of Apache Kafka—the leading open source technology for Event Streaming.

The new IBM Event Streams Standard Plan shares the same native Kubernetes architecture we have deployed our Enterprise Plan on since July of 2018.

New features and enhancements

The new Standard plan has the following enhancements:

  • Support for the latest stable Apache Kafka release: 2.2
  • Support for fine-grained authorization to topic level
  • Support for availability zones to further increase the resiliency of the service
  • A brand new IBM Design Thinking-led developer and user experience

You can deploy this multi-tenant service with a single click and immediately get access to the Apache Kafka as a Service that has been delivered by the same team within IBM since 2015.

This new Standard plan will initially be deployed to US-South and is expected to be available in all Multi-Zone Regions [MZR] by June 15, 2019.

As a result, we will be renaming any existing Standard plan deployments to be named “Classic.” This will not impact the stability of your applications.

Migrate your workloads

Guidance for how to migrate your workloads between the two plans to take advantage of all of the enhancements is available within our documentation.

As part of our CI/CD approach, we ship small code deltas daily to production for the Event Streams service. As a result, you can expect to see many further improvements to our user experience (and other areas) throughout the rest of 2019 and beyond.

IBM named a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for SIEM, for the 14th consecutive time
