IBM MQ: Running your world

What replacement products are available?

The following replacement products are available. Review the migration paths for restrictions on migrating queue managers to later releases before upgrading.

How do I check which version I am currently running?

On platforms other than IBM i, z/OS and the IBM MQ Appliance, run dspmqver, and if that is not found run mqver. If neither command is found, use the operating system commands and utilities to display installed software levels.

On IBM i run DSPMQMVER, and if that is not found run CALL PGM(QMQM/MQVER). If neither command is found, use GO LICPGM option 10 and press PF11 to view the versions of the installed programs.

On z/OS, look for message CSQY000I in the MSTR job log to determine your version.

To display the IBM MQ Managed File Transfer version, run: fteDisplayVersion

In the MQ Appliance Web UI, use the ?⃝ > About menu option:

IBM MQ Appliance version window in Web UI

Alternatively, follow the IBM Documentation for the MQ Appliance instructions to display the version from the CLI. The IBM MQ Appliance M2000 is Machine Type-Model 8436-54X while the IBM MQ Appliance M2001 is 8436-55X:

mqa# show version

         Serial: 0000000
        Version: MQ00.9.1.2.0

Is any information available to help me upgrade to a later version?

The IBM Documentation for IBM MQ includes information to assist you in migrating to a supported version of IBM MQ and to new MQ Appliance hardware:

Existing IBM MQ 8.0 queue managers can in some cases be updated directly to the latest version of IBM MQ. Review the migration paths for IBM MQ for Multiplatforms and IBM MQ for z/OS to determine whether you can upgrade directly to the latest version, upgrade to an intermediary version first, or whether you must delete your queue managers and re-create them after upgrading:

Can I purchase a support extension for my current version?

No support extensions are offered for the IBM MQ Appliance M2000, but IBM Services are available to assist with MQ Appliance upgrades. Contact your IBM Client Executive or IBM Software Representative for more details.

Support extensions might be available for IBM MQ 8.0 for an additional fee. To inquire whether extended support is available, contact your local IBM sales representative.

US Customers should contact Customer Support Operations at 1-877-426-6006, option #2. If you provide your IBM customer number, they can quickly find your sales representative.

Customers in other geographies should refer to the IBM directory of worldwide support contacts to find sales contact numbers in your region:

Are the MQ 8.0 clients and managed file transfer agents also out of support?

Yes. The IBM MQ 8.0 clients and IBM MQ 8.0 managed file transfer agents went out of support at the same time as the IBM MQ server on each platform.

Is IBM MQ 8.0 supported when it is included with another IBM product that is in support?

Some IBM software products use IBM MQ as a supporting program, which means they provide a license to download and install IBM MQ, without charge, for use with that software product. In these cases, IBM MQ 8.0 still goes out of support on the dates given. The other software product will typically include entitlement to later versions of IBM MQ to cover its full support lifespan.

Less frequently, IBM MQ components are bundled with another IBM software product, which means IBM MQ libraries or functionality are included directly with that product or as an installation prerequisite. For example, WebSphere Application Server 8.5 bundles the WebSphere MQ 7.1 Resource Adapter directly as part of its installation. When IBM MQ 8.0 is bundled in this fashion, the IBM MQ component is supported for use by the other software product throughout that product's support lifespan.

Is the IBM MQ 8.0 Resource Adapter supported in WebSphere Application Server?

No version of WebSphere Application Server ever included the IBM MQ 8.0 Resource Adapter, so it is not supported even if you purchase a WebSphere Application Server support extension.

Is documentation still available for these products?

Yes. IBM Documentation for IBM MQ is available online. Customer-installable documentation and PDFs are also available for download:

Is maintenance still available for these products?

Fix packs for IBM MQ 8.0 are available at: Recommended Fixes for IBM MQ. Firmware updates for the IBM MQ Appliance M2000 are no longer available.

How do I obtain installation images for these products if I still need them?

Installation images for IBM MQ 8.0 might still be available from Passport Advantage or IBM Shopz.

Is there an IBM MQ trial version available for download?

You can obtain a trial version of IBM MQ 9.3.0:
