How do I check which version I am currently running?
On platforms other than IBM i and z/OS, run dspmqver, and if that is not found run mqver. If neither command is found, try using the operating system commands and utilities to display installed software levels.
On IBM i run DSPMQMVER, and if that is not found run CALL PGM(QMQM/MQVER). If neither command is found, use GO LICPGM option 10 and press PF11 to view the versions of the installed programs.
On z/OS, look for message CSQY000I in the MSTR job log to determine your version.
To display the WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition version, run: fteDisplayVersion
To display the WebSphere MQ Advanced Message Security version, run: dspmqsver
Is any information available to help me upgrade to a later version?
The IBM Documentation for IBM MQ includes information to assist you in migrating to a supported version of IBM MQ:
Existing WebSphere MQ 7.1 queue managers cannot be upgraded directly to the latest IBM MQ version. You must save your queue manager object definitions and their security settings, then manually move existing messages elsewhere or discard them. Install a supported version of IBM MQ, re-create the queue managers, object definitions and security settings, and then move back any messages you relocated.
Can I purchase a support extension for my current version?
Support extensions might be available for an additional fee. To inquire whether extended support is available, contact your local IBM sales representative.
US Customers should contact Customer Support Operations at 1-877-426-6006, option #2. If you provide your IBM customer number, they can quickly find your sales representative.
Customers in other geographies should refer to the IBM directory of worldwide support contacts to find sales contact numbers in your region:
Are the WebSphere MQ 7.1 clients and WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition 7.0 agents also out of support?
Yes. The WebSphere MQ 7.1 clients and WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition 7.0.x agents all went out of support at the same time as the WebSphere MQ server on each platform.
Are these WebSphere MQ products supported when they are included with another IBM product that is in support?
Some IBM software products use WebSphere MQ as a supporting program, which means they provide a license to download and install WebSphere MQ, without charge, for use with that software product. In these cases, WebSphere MQ still goes out of support on the dates given. The other software product typically includes entitlement to later versions of WebSphere MQ or IBM MQ to cover its full support lifespan.
Less frequently, WebSphere MQ components are bundled with another IBM software product, which means WebSphere MQ libraries or functionality are included directly with that product or as an installation prerequisite. For example, WebSphere Application Server 8.5 bundles the WebSphere MQ 7.1 Resource Adapter directly as part of its installation. When WebSphere MQ is bundled in this fashion, the WebSphere MQ component is supported for use by the other software product throughout that product's support lifespan.
Is the WebSphere MQ 7.1 Resource Adapter supported in WebSphere Application Server?
Yes, the WebSphere MQ 7.1 Resource Adapter shipped with WebSphere Application Server 8.5.x is supported as long as that version of WebSphere Application Server remains in support, or longer if you purchase a WebSphere Application Server support extension. However, if you manually install your own copy of the WebSphere MQ 7.1 Resource Adapter in WebSphere Application Server or any third-party Jakarta EE or Java EE server, it is not supported.
The IBM MQ 8.0 and later Resource Adapters implement JMS 2.0 and cannot be installed in WebSphere Application Server 7.0, 8.0 and 8.5.x, which support JMS 1.1 only. WebSphere Application Server 9.0 ships with the IBM MQ 9.0 Resource Adapter and WebSphere Application Server 9.0.5 ships with the IBM MQ 9.1 Resource Adapter, both of which provide JMS 2.0 support. The version of MQ Resource Adapter you use does not need to match the version of the queue managers to which you want to connect, but it must be supported by your Java EE application server.
