FlashSystem 9500
The IBM System 9500 (9500 and 9500R) is built for a high-end enterprise and delivers 2x the performance and connectivity than that of the System 9200. The system is 4u high hardware with room for 48 internal NVMe drives. SAS expansions can be added to the 9500 system.
The IBM System 9500 system has two different types of enclosures: control enclosures and expansion enclosures.
A control enclosure manages your storage systems, communicates with the host, and manages interfaces. In addition, it can house up to 48 NVMe-capable drives. These drives can be either industry-standard NVMe types or the exclusive IBM FlashCore Module(FCM) type and some optional SCM class drives.
An expansion enclosure increases the available capacity of an IBM System 9500 cluster. It communicates with the control enclosure through a dual pair of 12 Gbps SAS connections. These expansion enclosures can house many (solid-state drive (SSD)) serial-attached SCSI (SAS) type drives, depending on which model of enclosure is ordered.
The System 9500R is available as a precabled, preconfigured rack with a dedicated Fibre Channel network for clustering. It is available with two clustered System 9500 systems and up to two expansion enclosures. It can be ordered as a System 9502R.
